지금 세계 각국에선 전쟁, 인종 혐오를 비롯한 아시아인 증오 범죄가 끊이질 않고 종교간의 갈등도 이어지고 있지만 약 3억년전, 모든 대륙은 하나의 큰 땅(판게아)이었습니다.
지금은 이념과 피부색과 종교가 다르다는 이유로 폭언, 폭력, 분쟁이 끊이지 않지만 먼 옛날 우리는 모두 한 땅에서 살고 있었습니다.
이 강연 연주회를 통해 현대인이 ‘다르다’라고 여기는 것들이 고대에는 모두 ‘하나’였음을 음악을 통해 한국 뿐 아니라 세계 각국에게 상기시켜 드리고 싶습니다.
세계의 각 다른 문화와 음악을 하나로 묶을 수 있는 열쇠가 있는데 이는 5음계입니다.
각 나라들의 민요(folksong)들을 들어보면 대부분 5음계로(pentatonic)으로 되어있으며 이는 국악도 마찬가지입니다.
제 강연 연주회를 통해 대한민국 뿐 아니라 전 세계의 많은 부분들이 다르지만 음악 DNA(5음계)는 같다는 것을 알리고 싶습니다.
지금은 7대륙으로 흩어졌고 전통 음악도 다 다르지만 공통 음악 DNA인 5음계를 통해 우리 모두가 한 대륙 출신임을 기억하고 함께 평화를 추구하자는 의미로 ‘판게아 대륙의 노래’ 연주회를 기획하였습니다.
이 강연 연주회가 대한민국에선 다문화 가정을 이해, 포용하고 미국과 세계 각국에서는 아시아인 혐오를 멈추는데 일조하였으면 좋겠습니다.

Praised by Anthony Tommasini of the New York Times for his “bright tenor voice and vitality”, Tenor Alexander Wook Lee is a dynamic and accomplished young performer, conductor, and music educator in the world of opera and classical music.
Recent opera credits include role of Azaël in Debussy’s L’enfant prodigue, Don José in Bizet’s Carmen, Ferrando in Mozart’s Cosį Fan Tutte, Gérald in Delibe’s Lakmé, Candide in Bernstein’s Candide, and Acis in Handel’s Acis and Galatea. Dr. Lee was also recently seen as Eisenstein and Goro in the critically acclaimed production of Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus and Puccini’s Madama Butterfly with the prestigious Martina Arroyo Foundation.
A native of South Korea, Dr. Lee was a soloist with the Korea National Theater and Korean Broadcast Station, where he also worked as a staff pianist. His diverse skills also led him to the position of Sergeant with the Ministry of National Defense Band as a composer, arranger and singer. Additional concert work includes engagements with the Turkish National Symphony Orchestra and the National Korean Music Symphony. In 2009, Mr. Lee was the first place winner of the Korea Singing Competition, held in Seoul.
He has been music and stage director of the Opera Workshop since 2017 and held the same position with local theatres in Huntington, West Virginia. His recent directed works include Hänsel und Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck, Women’s Suffrage(Original Production), A Woman’s Love and Life(Original Production), Magic Flute by W. A. Mozart, Little Red Riding Hood by Seymour Barab, and Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell.
Dr. Alexander Lee has been an active recitalist in both the US and South Korea. He has performed at the Opera America Center, Korean National Theatre, Turkish War Museum, Sesil Art Hall and continues to be in demand as an active recitalist across the continent. Next year in August, he will present an art song recital “Song of Pangea” in Vienna, Austria.
His passion for teaching is acknowledged nationally and internationally. He has been invited to present masterclasses at Butler University, the University of Connecticut, the University of Arizona, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Northern Caribbean University, Eastern Illinois University, West Virginia Governor's School for the Arts, and Myoungji University.
He is currently Assistant Professor of Voice Music and Opera Director at Marshall University in Huntington, WV as the Coordinator of Voice Studies. Also, he is the president of Tri-State NATS Chapter and South Korea Chapter. Furthermore, International Music Association appointed him as the Executive Director of the organization.
Dr. Lee received his Doctoral degree from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, master's degree from Manhattan School of Music, and Bachelor's Degree at 명지대학교(Myongji University) in South Korea.
