Acclaimed singer-songwriter Catherine Traicos has announced the release of her latest record ‘The Nashville Record,’ a collection of delicate yet defiant chamber pop songs, performed by the slickest of Nashville musicians.
Traicos’ pandemic record was forged in the depths of lockdown, recorded across two continents, and completed after the borders opened. ‘The Nashville Record’ serves as a chronicle of a time in the artist’s life, one which saw her leave behind her signature melancholy folk peppered with gaunt guitar rock, and open up to a more vibrant auric space, one occupied by the likes of Regina Spektor and Imogen Heap.
An underground icon in the Australian music scene, Traicos has been quietly collecting accolades and critical acclaim whilst steadily and deliberately operating outside of the mainstream. Traicos has released eight studio albums, toured nationally and internationally, and supported a range of indie and mainstream artists including The Mountain Goats, Beth Orton, and Rob Snarski.
The collection of songs on ‘The Nashville Record’ have a hugely elevating air, even on the angrier or sadder tracks like ‘Some Kind of Night’ and ‘The Rain’, which recall moments of Fiona Apple’s baroque rage or Cat Power’s raw strident femme punk. Those who know Traicos treasure her work.
This record with its uplifting melodies, elegant and relatable lyrics and evocative arrangements will no doubt open her up to a whole new audience.
Catherine Traicos will be playing with her band, The Unrequited, and joined by Perth luminaries The Tigers and Little Things.
