About this concert
For a brief stint in the mid 90’s, WA punters were treated to the local supergroup Butternut, featuring Flick Dear from Wooden Fische, Sascha Ion from Spank, and Gretta Little from the Rosemary Beads. Decades on, the women of Butternut are each working on new projects, which they bring together for a show at Lyric’s Underground on Friday 24th February.
Gretta Little is back with her distinctive banshee wail and throbbing bass in her new outfit, Little Things, where she sets up with a couple of guys from the Red Jezebel circle: Alex Hyman minds the clock and pummels the drums, and Mark Cruickshank shifts to guitar, while Mark’s brother Chris plays guitar and viola.
Flick Dear bangs the drums for indi-pop band Dusk, featuring the beautiful, soaring harmonies of Collet Musiwa (vocals), Indi Milne (vocals/bass) and Gemma Gale (vocals/keyboards), with guitar demon extraordinaire Sze. Dusk combine bitter-sweet lyrics with tight-knit rhythms and floating synths.
Sascha Ion started her musical journey in Perth playing in prominent bands Spank and One Horse Town through the 90’s into the mid 2000’s before moving to Melbourne where she formed the Voodoo Economic and, trans-Tasman trio Red Dirt Radio. Now firmly planted back in the city where it all began, she returns with her new project Sascha Ion and the Elements with Liam Coffey (Header, Loads, The Slow Beings) on bass and Andrew Lippiatt (Spank, Disgraceland) on drums.
