Ex Macello Putignano
Ex Macello di Putignano is a former industrial slaughterhouse transformed into an independent cultural hub located in Putignano, in the heart of Apulia, Southern Italy. Active since 2009, the venue has become a recognised space for contemporary culture, hosting numerous national and international artists over the years.
The venue is part of a broader urban regeneration process aimed at giving new life to abandoned industrial spaces through contemporary culture, artistic production and community-based activities.
Today, Ex Macello hosts concerts, performing arts, visual arts exhibitions, film screenings, residencies and multidisciplinary cultural projects, with a strong focus on emerging artists and experimental practices.
The venue includes both an outdoor courtyard, used for open-air events, and an indoor multifunctional hall (Sala Mediterraneo), allowing for year-round programming and different spatial configurations.
Ex Macello works as an open platform for local, national and international artists, fostering dialogue between contemporary creation, local communities and peripheral territories.
The space is managed by Consorzio IMAKE, a cultural consortium of associations based in Putignano and registered as a cultural enterprise, actively engaged in developing cultural infrastructures and international partnerships in Southern Italy.
Through its programme, Ex Macello aims to be a reference point for contemporary culture in rural and non-metropolitan contexts, promoting access, participation and long-term artistic development.
