Who would have thought that a Progressive, mostly instrumental Funk band would be so popular? I wouldn’t, but these guys do what they do so well that people just can’t resist. Their deep, tight, funky rhythm section is world class, the song writing is plain fun, and each musician in the entire band is killer! From the blazingly tight horn section, to Mike’s deep grooves on the drums, (with lots of fabulous technical stuff), to Collins killer rhythm guitar playing, oh, his lead guitar stuff makes you think you’re at a coliseum or stadium show…The keyboards contribute fabulous rhythm stuff, but also some great underlining psychedelia that’s just so trippy! Let’s not leave out the VERY tasteful bass playing that’s just so locked in! What a great bottom end! If you haven’t seen this band, run, don’t walk! They have edged out other current great local bands, (you know who you are), and in my humble opinion, are Santa Cruz’s best! Best of luck Jive Machine! See you at the next Abbott Square show!
