A bit of a gig-of-two-halves for me. Support band the Howling were excellent - their frontman in particular bringing Bruce Dickinson pipes to glammish horror punk, strutting gleefully like a twisted circus master. As Creeper launched into their set, an adoring crowd lapping it up, the energy was pretty electric, especially at the back of the pit during Headstones. Then somehow it kind of petered out… returning from the bar I couldn’t help notice a contraction of their first album’s emotional range, an almost clinical finish to their sound, a not-always-convincing lower vocal register… I found myself nitpicking basically! Maybe I chose the wrong drink.
