The Music of Frank Zappa played by Treacherous Cretins (the title of an instrumental track by Zappa on the 'Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar' album) is a sheer joy for any enthusiast and also for anyone seeking a fascinating introduction to the broad church of energetic, challenging, styish and often very beautiful music by this now long-dead composer. This tour showcases track from many corners of Zappa's career to commemorate 60 years since the release in 1966 of the first official Zappa album 'Freak Out'. Citing Franks' Conceptual Continuity theme, the two finely crafted sets we were presented with selected not just the 'hits' most widely played by Zappa tribute bands but also some delicious morsels from less well-known releases each performed impeccably by this fine 5-piece ensemble. Sam Ward's leadership and fine guitar work on stage complemented but by no means dominated the other excellent band members' work with Jen Parkinson on keys, Ollie Hill on Trombone, vocals and madness, Alessandro Taglione on bass and the vivacious John Parkinson on drums all contributing to a great show, expertly put together and perfectly delivered. If you know anything about Zappa's music and can get to see this band, I can guarantee you won't be disappointed!
