The Heights Theater

I remember seeing this band open for QOTSA and NIN nearly twenty years ago at MSG. Been a fan since I was in high school when I got sucked into the You’re A Woman.. frenzy. Seen them 4 times throughout the years, and DFA always KILLS it. They’re loud, they’re noisy, they’re abrasive, they will literally melt your face off. But damn they put on one hell of a show. The sound created by just these two dudes is nothing short of amazing. The Heights Theatre is an awesome venue - an old theatre stuck in the heart of downtown Houston that’s been there since the 1920’s. And DFA strolled in and just burnt the place to the ground. They interact with the crowd, they’re funny, down to earth and it was a small, intimate communion that was extraordinarily beautiful. I plan to see them again as much as I can for as long as they keep going, and I highly recommend you do the same.

This was an outstanding concert by an excellent performer and his accompanist. I loved the way they blended their unique skills on their guitars to add depth to the music. The venue was just terrific for this show. The acoustics were great and the sound was tuned in so that you could actually hear the lyrics to the songs! We'll definitely go back there. Slaid Cleaves is very attuned to his audience and obviously cares a lot about his fans and his music. If you enjoy a comfortable, lyric-focused songwriter and his skills at portraying everyday life in memorable verses, you won't go wrong with his shows. And in an unexpected move, his last song of the night found him exiting the stage and wandering through the audience to get closer to us as he played and sang! And the meet and greet after the show was the icing on the cake. What an enjoyable evening! Highly recommended!

I enjoyed this concert so much! My girlfriend bought my ticket last minute since I had not decided if I was gonna be able to go but I’m so glad that she bought it and I went. The energy in that venue was immaculate. Everyone was dancing and having a good time! Energía full aunque fuera Domingo jaja . Such talented musicians in this band. Viva Venezuela! Viva Mexico! Viva Latinoamérica!

It was great to see Ryan in H-Town again after a seven year absence. Heights Theater was the perfect venue for an intimate show like this where it was just the man himself with the exception of one song where he plugged in & played “Bartering Lines” with a drummer & bassist. The show was divided into two sets: the opening set featured songs from his first solo album Heartbreaker which turned 25 this year. With his usual wicked sense of humor, Ryan entertained the audience between songs. The man is such an incredible storyteller. The second set featured songs from other solo LP’s including Gold, Easy Tiger & Prisoner. However, the cover songs that Ryan has been doing for several years now that have a connection to the town he is playing in were the highlights of the 2nd set. First, from Houston native the late Kenny Rogers, his massive early 80’s hit, “The Gambler” followed by “Rough Boy” from local legends ZZ Top. But, Ryan’s acoustic/blues version of H-Town hip-hop stars The Geto Boys “My Mind’s Playin’ Tricks On Me” was the highlights of the evening for me. Inventive musicianship at its creative finest. To close out the evening, a classic from Heartbreaker, “Come Pick Me Up”. An incredible show for any true fan of Ryan Adams. Strongly recommended catching this tour at some point if you can!

Ray was even cooler than the previous 30 times I’ve appeared before him. Lucas and Ray were synched up and absolutely killing it all night. They reached deeper into the past for the most beautiful songs ever written (Dust of the Chase and Messenger) and his finger-picking is even better than ever. The stories were, well, delivered…so entertaining. Gritted and grooved also I brought a novice RWH couple and they were blown away. He is even better every year. As always, Heights Theater is one of the greatest listening venues around.

The Tiffany Haddish concert was amazing. She showed and proved that she is not only one of the funniest female comedians but one of the best performers in the genre today . I was really impressed by the small intimate theater that the performance took place . Her She Ready team were very kind , courteous and helpful . I look forward to seeing Tiffany Haddish in the future and hopefully visiting The Heights Theatre too

Tommy and Painkillers are taking blues to next level, his voice and guitar grab you with his band right on time. Marcia started slow (reason for only 4 stars), her playing is still sharp but time has somewhat diminished her ability to belt out songs and keep ahead of the beat. That changed when she returned to play a few songs with Tommy, feeding off his energy.

Took a couple of my kids to see CG5 - very age appropriate show, uplifting song choice at the end, he can carry a tune and has a lot of energy and stage presence, and utilized video and a guest/foe (cute, it was his dad as was revealed in the end) to also maintain a little storyline through the show. Clever all around. Lighting and effects were fun. The venue was smaller and manageable, prefecr size really. Audio was clear and not so loud it threatened your hearing. Standard concert length, a little over an hour. Tickets were reasonably priced. I really don't have anything negative to say, and I'm not even a fan or anything. I do wish my youngest was taller, so I didn't have to hold him the whole time so he could see in GA, but hey, that's my problem not CG5s or the venue lol. My kids were so happy!

The energy and talent was amazing, the transition from dark and moody to psychedelic soulful guitar jammin’ moved the audience to another era. Michael Jerome’s creative and genius physical ability to create sounds on the drums was right on. Jesse Sykes heart and soulful vocals a sound of Joni Mitchell back in the day. There is no other like Dave Alvin however, adding David Immergluck, and Victor Krummenacher completes the sound that creates The Third Mind… a sound beyond your imagination…… R. Estep

Fabulous first concert of the year! Great to see Al DiMeola back up on stage, gave a concert I will be raving about for a long time. Can't wait for the new album also. First time for us to go to the Heights Theatre, had great seats, enjoyed the show, and will definitely go back again. Rated 10 out of 10

It was a great show! Eric Erdman opened with 5 songs and he was awesome as usual. The trio, Radney, Eric and Brenna Wheeler, was outstanding. First time hearing Brenna and she added so much with her voice and fiddle playing that Radney got caught up in her greatness and he commented that he missed a lyric while singing Greatest Show on Earth. First time for us at this venue. Next time will get table or balcony tickets as chairs in GA were pretty close together. Drinks were good and they don't put up with rowdy people during listening events. Many thanks that they threw out a disruptive drunk guy.

Wow. I didn’t know what to expect with American Aquariam but I am so glad i was able to see them live! I appreciate the live, small venue type atmosphere…refuse to see a stadium band! AA is Full of energy, non stop playing and you can feel the emotion from PJ with his animated style of singing. I have always loved their music. I had a great night! Also bought some shirts and one of the signed posters! Lance Roark was amazing too…never heard of him until the concert and was impressed. He will go far!

Uncle Lucius exceeded our eager expectations. But, I wasn't surprised at all. From seeing them countless times over the years. It was another celestial performance, fueled by raw passion, chemistry, and energy that can only be replicated time and time again by these masters of their craft. One would never know they recently reunited after a six year hiatus. Loyal fans anxiously await the soon to release new album. The Heights Theater is a splendid venue offering premium seating, up and downstairs bar, clean restrooms and professional, customer service oriented staffers. Asleep At The Wheel with Brennen Leigh & Joshua Hedley were absolutely amazing. Have seen them before and they just get better & better. They sing one some after another with little talking. No politics or opinions, just music. They are the best Western Swing group out there!! Should be mandatory that all students studying music see them at some point. Amazing show!!!

Kat Edmonson is one of a kind. She has a distinctive voice perfect for the jazzy music she mostly sings. She can switch from sultry and romantic to lively and funny in a heartbeat. She is entertaining, fun, adorable, and works hard to give everything she's got. She is another Houston born entertainer who does our city proud. Kat is super!

Colin Hay is one the best poet-story tellers in the world. His incredibly beautiful music is the icing on top of the cake. After purchasing these tickets mkre than two years ago, it was definitely worth the wait. The guy begind had seats he had gotten from a couple who had divorced since this was originally scheduled. The bar is back open at The Heights Theatre. And the mask requirement is gone. It was freaking awesome!!

I’ve been a huge fan since my teens in the 80’s. Seeing this show in an intimate venue such as the Heights was fabulous! I’m just not sure the crowd was not as lively as previous shows because of city or crowd age LOL nonetheless, the CHURCH, Steve Kilbey did not disappoint! Thank you for including my new city of residence to give me the opportunity to see one of my faves again! Great evening!

waited at barricade for three hours to keep my spot. TOTALLY WORTH IT!!! they were amazing!! i’ve never seen an all female band before so this was really important to me seeing as how my goal is to form a riot girl band. i was right in front of carrie and she was AMAZING!! such great energy and message from the band and i couldn’t stop laughing with the opener, he was just as fun to watch as sleater-kinney!

Great support band . Ally venable 19 year old guitar player great. Old school. 25 min set check her out Duane betts & co around 1 hr set . Great set & slide guitar player Johnny S really good. Then to the main bill Devon Allman . Uncanny how he sounds like his dad. Great set with some Allman classics thrown in. 2 hr set incl 30 min encore. You should definitely catch them if they are in your yown
