Just fabulous in every way! The venue was unbelievably intimate. Thoughtful managers created areas on the side for people who wished to dance, so they would not block the view of the sitters!
The show itself was everything I had hoped and more (with the exception of their not singing "Bad Year for Rock & Roll"). Excellent musicianship, great songs OF COURSE, and a fine evening all around.
I would not hesitate to return to The Kate for other lovable and original musicians, and plan to see Chuck Prophet whenever and wherever the opportunity arises.
This was not the first time I saw The High Kings concert and this most certainly will not be the last time. I intend to follow them wherever the tour if I am fortunate enough to do so. This concert was beyond FABULOUS. Their songs, their instruments and their wonderful voices were like music from an Irish heaven. And harmonizing, well, they always do it so beautifully. Most importantly, they are all such lovely, warm and welcoming gentlemen that make their audience feel as though they are singing for each and every one of us. They interject humor, smiles and laughter. The instruments they play give off such strength, force and leave their audience in amazement as to how astoundingly harmonious and blended they sound all together. They sang my favorite songs and walked closer to the edge of the stage to be closer to us. Darren knows everyone loves to hear him sing “The Town I Loved So Well”. He has such a strong and beautiful voice that filled the concert hall, sent chills that reached our hearts and electrified us all to jump to our feet with well deserved applause. It was just a magical night that had me running through the building in excitement long after they left. Yes, four Irish lads, true gentlemen, excellent musicians with fabulous voices and so willing to meet their fans with kindness and appreciation of us. I left their show at “The Kate” so hyper and beyond joy. The High Kings, a true blessing to all who love true Irish music and love Ireland.
I recently enjoyed attending a Linda Ronstadt Experience concert at the Kate in Old Saybrook, CT. I traveled from Philly to see this show, and it was definitely worth the trip. I hope that more venues will consider booking them closer to home.
The energy, the music, and the atmosphere were all incredible. They performed two shows at 3:30 PM and 8:00 PM, and both were nearly sold out, with only a couple of single seats remaining. I tried to get tickets for the earlier show but missed them.
The Linda Ronstadt Experience concert uniquely combines nostalgia and exceptional talent. While no one can truly be Linda Ronstadt, Tristen McIntosh comes remarkably close. She has an incredible voice and impeccable phrasing, making every word understandable, which is not always the case with some singers. Unlike some performers who attempt to embody Linda's essence, Tristen succeeds.
My 11th "Experience" and I had a delaying, unpleasant experience getting to the show which caused me to miss the first 2 songs...but after getting to my seat and being I love this band so much within minutes I forgot all about it...lol
Fantastic show, and I attended the night show too!!!
I have been witness to this incredible band for some 33 months now. The two shows at The Kate on June 1 were both fantastic, as every show I've seen which now numbers 12
With the trivia questions and some injected humor seeing the LRE is truly a "Feel good show"
Great band...and Tristan McIntosh is a Gem, a rising star!
Just saw Sean, Pat and, Garnet at The Kate in Old Saybrook, CT. A great show! Some excellent original material and a few Savoy Brown classics were played. They are an important new blues band that is forging a new path while also keeping the Savoy Brown flame burning!
This show was spectacular. I love all of Mike’s original music. It really comes from the heart and they all tell a story, whether it be about his children, his childhood, his wife, his brothers , Max, or his Mom and Dad. They are all heartfelt and very touching. At times you even see him tear up. I just think he is so talented playing the many instruments he plays (all of which he does so well). His voice has such range-it can be soft and tender or rough and raw. I would love him to do more original songs, but I know it takes a lot of time. I also feel badly for him that he has to spend so much time away from his family-it’s very clear how much he misses them. The Kate is a wonderful venue-small, cozy and intimate.
best show ive seen in the last two decades - all on the strength of Eric's guitar mastery and artistic passion. Like a jolt of electricity that is continuous, the guitar playing just keeps flowing, directly from his soul, igniting the air with an electrifying presence that captivates and mesmerizes and never runs dry. He's not just playing notes but channeling a force that is as ancient and primal as it is beautiful and complex. Incredible talent and, hell of a nice guy as well.....
Playing without a net tonight....no set list and taking callouts from the audience. Band was tight and cooking including the new bass player who didn't miss a thump. Only disappointment.....miss those black and white wingtips from back in the day Albert. 😉😜
My Best Friend and I Had the Best time ever. It was Our 1st time at the Katherine Hepburn cultural Center and I Got a Tee Shirt of Maddie Poppe and a Bracelet with a guitar pic that says Maddie Poppe on it, and I also got a picture that was signed from Megan Danielle. All her pictures were pre-signed. The show was the best. There is some songs that both of them saying and brought Bri 🇧🇷 and I to tears. I would recommend going to the Katherine Hepburn cultural Center If you haven’t been there.yet.
This was the first time I saw Brazen Youth and was very impressed with their talents. Nick Lussier’s vocals were outstanding and his rhythm guitar propelled the band like a Keith Richards - using open tunings, capos and numerous chord inversions and shapes to rock his acoustic and electric guitars. But not all was rock - there were great vocals with mesmerizing mellow textures. They have a unique fresh and cosmic sound that reminds me of the impact of the Byrds in the late 60’s. Very positive vibe. All of the musicians were great and the band pulled off great rhythm stops. The lead guitarist, organist and bass player and drummer were very tight and in the groove. I highly recommend this band and I personally want to take a deeper dive into their albums and lyrics.
Will Evans is a very talented musician/performer who I always enjoy seeing. His performance at The Kate on Saturday was no exception! Will shares his story with his audience and puts on an amazing show every time. Love this venue, too. This was my fourth event at The Kate and it's always enjoyable. Beautiful, comfortable, intimate venue.
Concert was everything I knew it would be, the band were not only great musicians but they were world class guys who hung around later and shared their time with us. My wife said it was the best concert she attended since she’s been shows at “The Kate”
It was really a great show. The theater is very nice. Great sound in this theater the band was telling us after the show. They had a meet and greet after the show, which was so cool meeting the band! Would love to see them again. And also would love to see another show at the Kate.
As always, when the Circus comes to town magical things happen. What a great show with all the Slmabovians in top form. Thanks so much for coming out to Eastern CT, we love you all out here ! And Happy 179th Birthday Joziah.
What an incredible show! Non stop energy, interspersed with a wonderful history of rockabilly. Total talent all around. Piano man was awesome! Lee Rocker..incredible energy and passion for his craft. This band gives 120%!! This was a great date night for us (almost 50 yrs married!!)
Absolutely Fantastic from beginning to end!!! I cannot wait to see the show again!!! Sat in the front row and Tristan McIntosh was sensational, charismatic, and talented! She truly captured Linda Ronstadt and received a well deserved standing ovation. The band was terrific also! Great night out, and looking forward to the return of this wonderful show!!
I love this band!! So unique and full of character with great lyrics, variety and tons of talent!! I’ve been following them since the Haddam Neck Fair when they called themselves Poor Old Shine!!
The venue was great, too, with tons of charm! Very warm and inviting staff!!
The Slambovians knocked it out of the park yet again. So glad to see everyone back in action and a crowd rockin out to the best band this side of the Mississippi, new album and all. Thanks Josiah, Tink, Sharkey & Co., you guys bring it in every performance !
I saw him a number of times when I was younger. Haven't seen him in probably 25 years. Still puts on a great show. 4+ covers. In Your Eyes (of course), 5 Years (Bowie), Riot Act (Elvis Costello), Rock Steady (Bad Company), a verse of Wild Thing, and a few instrumental bars of Norwegian Wood.
Anyway, one of the hallmarks I remember of his shows was his ability to not just tell stories but engage the audience, and he's better than I remembered. There are few solo acoustic performers who have the instrumental and vocal command he does.
If you get a chance to see him and pass that chance up, you've done yourself a disservice.
