There are a thousand punk bands out there and some have a message some are angry some are political and some are just doing there own thing. The White Ribbons fall into the latter and the former on lots of levels . They are a four piece made up of three lads from Lancashire and one from Manchester who were introduced as they are all involved in social work on some level. After getting together from a jam session that turned into something more they have evolved into one of the finest bands currently playing live music in the Uk. Led by Brian on lead vocals and guitar, Andrew on Lead, Tony on bass and John on drums they play songs about the things that should not be going on in society and they are very vocal about what they feel. I discovered them only three years ago in a pub in Gateshead where they played to a small crowd and I was absolutely blown away by them. Standing up and shouting about how its not acceptable for men to be beating women both physically and mentally, how its not acceptable for a young woman to be beaten to death for being "different" because of the music she liked and the clothes she wears. They sing about how hard it is when a loved one passes and the affect it has on your life, Brian fronts the band and between songs he talks about the things that affect us all and he really wears his heart on his sleeve. They will take you on a journey that will have you laughing and at some points you may choke back tears of sadness and joy. You will come away from a gig feeling like you witnessed something special . Over the past three years I have got to know more about them as people and who they are and I adore what they stand for.

Martin and the guys were on top form. I was especially pleased that Susannah Clarkson was able to make the trip south as the violin gives the music that additional dark melancholia
