Incredible. A brutalist venue filled with gentle souls, and every one of us was given the most glorious gift of music, theatre, soul-filling sounds and moments of utter bliss. I would recommend this to everyone. Every time I meet someone who was there, there is a moment of where we both just smile and say, wasn't it beautiful. Thank you for a wonderful experience that I will never forget.
There’s no denying Herbie Hancock is a living legend — and at 85, it’s incredible to see him still touring and performing the classics that shaped so many of our musical journeys. But sadly, this time around, the show didn’t quite hit the right notes for me.
The set took an odd detour with a near 15-minute vocoder-laced monologue about the state of the world. It felt more like a lecture than a performance — well-intentioned, perhaps, but ultimately dull and disconnected from the energy of the music.
Then came the bass solos. Two of them. Technically impressive, sure, but they stretched past five minutes and veered into indulgent territory. Harsh on the ears, and disruptive to the flow of the set. The trumpet, too, was overpowering — the sound too broad, the volume too high. At times, it was physically uncomfortable.
Even the drums, usually a highlight, were dominated by an overused snap cymbal that quickly became grating.
I’ll always hold Herbie in the highest regard — his influence is unmatched. But as a live experience, this performance fell short of expectations. A legend, no doubt — just not a legendary night.
I have been a fan of Malian music for many years and it's wonderful that they are receiving the mainstream recognition we see today.
Fatoumata is a charismatic and engaging entertainer, and, of course, THAT voice just grips your heart.
The only very slight dent in the evening was that it had to end! After two magical hours, and as I've found with African musicians I've seen live, the band were only just warmed up and it felt as though another two hours would yield even more joy.
I really enjoyed this show lively and bright the band were tight and Fatou on form the music reached my soul and elevated me my soul was soothed and would see this artist anywhere, thank you Fatou ,
Just one bad point I was sitting next to a complete bitch who tried to bring me down, never mind.
I’m incredibly grateful to have attended Mustafa’s concert. It felt like time stood still. I sang, I cried. His art pierces the soul—it cuts deep and allows you to truly grasp the meaning of Dunya.
One line he quoted stayed with me: “When you feel far from God, who moved?”
He’s more than an artist—he’s a poet.
I love him, and I wish everyone could experience his music… and truly understand it.
Love the Venue. They Seemed Problems with the Acoustics. Next Day. Young People Takeover. Had the Same Misfortune. Kim came complete with Band. Plus Strings. Was in Good Humour. Record was My Favourite from Last Year. Everybody Went Home. Happy after One & Half Hours. With One Encore
A remarkable 2.5 hrs in the company of a true musical genius. Standards and jazz infused pieces played on an array of Metheny’s guitars, finished off with unique Orchestrion percussion and looped guitar brilliance as encores. What an incredible treat it was from start to finish.
I have attended a dozen Pat Metheny concerts, starting with a gig that he played at my university (Tulane University, New Orleans) with his band in 1982. He blew my mind then, and he has never disappointed. Friday night’s gig was astounding. I pushed the boat out and bought front row, middle tickets knowing that he was playing solo. It was the best decision of my life as the concert almost felt as if we were just hanging out together in a small club. I have never heard him speaking so much, and I was delighted to have been allowed into his world. He told some fascinating stories, and it was delightful. Regarding his music, the resonance of his many acoustic guitars, including his amazing collection of baritone guitars, was visceral. The rich complexity of the songs with his carefully crafted voicings, was so masterful and glorious that I found myself transported to other worlds over and over again. It was an emotional evening, with soaring highs and devastating lows, communicated clearly and poignantly through his art. I understand that he will be retiring after this tour, and, I couldn’t help thinking that he was absolutely giving his all during the concert, as if he was somehow trying to repay the devotion of his millions of fans. He was other worldly on Friday night, the Michelangelo or Bach of our time, and we lucky few in that venue saw, heard, and witnessed the peak of human achievement. For me, at least, there will never be a another musician like Pat Metheny.
a few little mistakes and a mistuned guitar aside, this was a wonderful show. Casper and crew really know how to entertain - showcasing new material and ripping through some great tunes from their growing back catalogue. Sedna and Black Summer from Pyramidia was met with great enthusiasm. Would see them again at the drop of a hat.
Anohni has a fabulous voice. I am struggling to find the words to describe the show but here are a few ; thought provoking, other worldly, surreal, mind blowing. A great experience that will be with us for a long time.
Beautiful premiere of his new work "Carve the runes and then be content with silence", a composition that had been recorded, planted in the soil of Orkney, then dug up, and played back. This was then transcribed to score the performance this evening.
I’d have given it TEN STARS if that was an option!!
The Barbican was far easier to find that I worried about! When we got there, there was a band playing upstairs while we enjoyed a drink! The staff were very helpful getting us the the right room (there are numerous performance spaces at this venue!)
The performance itself was sublime, I love her albums but LIVE Samara does more scatting and singing around the tune, playing with her voice, just phenomenal! After the show we even got to meet her and get an autograph! It was an all round FANTASTIC experience and I’m so glad I made the effort to come out!
SE wss tremendous, living up to exepectations of previous performances.
He gives everything, the passion and commitmrnt hr has is self evident. Last time i saw hom he had his band, this yime a one man band and not fot one minute was the band missed ( no disrecpect)
It takes guts to.play like yhis snd Stebe had it in bucketd. One small complaint he fid noy play ,
' Fort Worth Blues'
Pls come back again soon.
Brilliant from start to finish, lots of his best tracks and a lot of covers of his favourites including a very poignant cover of one of JTE's best. Steve has got better and better as time has moved on. Still one of the best singer/songwriters around.
Absolutely electrifying.. The twin sisters always put on a great show, but they were extra energised by the iconic venue and an enthusiastic audience. If you haven’t caught up with Thomas yet, do so as soon as you can, and be wowed by the wonderful harmonies and marvellous songs. A truly great night.
Absolutely mesmerising, the audience hung on every note
Adore this woman’s voice, her beautiful songs and her sultry performance.
A brilliant venue to see her in too.
Pure quality, album is one of the best I’ve heard in years, literally every song is sublime ❤️❤️❤️
It’s not often singers like this come around, get and see her if you can.
I‘ m just in the middle of watching the stream. Ultracool jazz sounds and GGP are great. Watched last year „stream only“ concert, but this is even better. Look forward to seeing them live live, I think there’s a concert here in Berlin in spring
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of ‘car wheels on a gravel road album and supported by film clips taken at the time and some intriguing introductions from Lucinda. The Phoenix 6( there’s only 3 of them) provided superb support and brought the Deep South to an iconic London venue in what was a wholly engaging insight into one country rocks leading artists. Standing ovation richly deserved - catch on one of her other gigs if you can!
A dark solo lured me slowly in - hypnotically leading all of us sitting in the dark into a parallel world - as machine drones looped and shifted and then combined with organic Japanese instrumentation - plumes of bellowing smoke and light. I felt I was in an unseen Kurosawa film.
I went along with 2 friends and we've all seen Nils before but were all still memorised with his professionalism to his craft. An unbelievable talent that engages the audience effortlessly. I found his storytelling fascinating which is no surprise considering his longevity and the number of fellow artists he has worked and collaborated with over the last 50 years.
At 2 and a half hours long with virtually no break apart from briefly departing prior to encore, and the fact that he engaged with his fans after the show for signings, was a true example of the man.
