Guy plays his ass off and is drummer is great as well but big complaint regarding the lack of bass player - clearly using backing tracks. Would love to hear his rationale considering his friend Eddie Trunk is a staunch opponent of this tactic. Would have felt a lot more like a band and less like a guitar clinic.
Matt Pond & crew never fail to put on a fantastic show. Special shoutout to Bathtub Cig & Alexa Rose for being amazing opening acts! Finally, KC Turner puts on some great shows at HopMonk ☺️
A soulful rockin night with the articulate, amusing, and amazing musicianship of these award-winning artists who have opened for or played with the biggest names in Country and Folk. Original tunes by frontman Tim Flannery accompany stories infused with soul and insight; lead guitar Jeff Berkley contributing a humorous homage to a host of humanity well-met. 😎
Wonderful experience all the way around!
Sue Foley has been on my must-see list for some time, and she did not disappoint. Her One Guitar Woman show is a tribute to women who blazed a trail in the blues, and Sue's show was a mixture of engaging stories of these women and soulful playing and singing. Her nearly 90-minute set flew by, with no dead spots anywhere. After the show, Sue was graciously available to chat with fans, sign autographs, and take pictures.
The HopMonk Tavern was wonderful as well. The venue is easy to find and has lots of parking around it. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and their Session Room was comfortable, giving a great view of the stage.
I would definitely see Sue Foley again (in fact, I did see her again the following night), and I would visit the HopMonk Tavern again to see one of the artists I follow.
The Mother Hips never fail to entertain. Great show. First time at the Hopmunk Novato venue and thoroughly enjoyed it. They know how to handle large groups. We ordered the BBQ bowls dinners. Tasty.
The Mother Hips are a Bay Area treasure. We’ll see them again this summer and fall.
Glorious original Folk-Americana acoustic show (packed!!!) by legendary San Diego native picker/strummer, singer-songwriter and prodigious recording producer who’s toured globally solo, and with internationally-esteemed bands including his own The Banned. Great storyteller, wise old charm, funny as heck. Petit swears in all the right places. JeffBerkley.com
James, Band and Betty Soo knocked it out of the park. Music was great and fantastic venue at the Hopmonk Tavern. I traveled from San Diego just to see James and band. Would love to have him come back to San Diego.
What a hoot! It was awesome, and a couple of surprise guests showed up to singalong a few songs: Banana and Peter Rowan! I only drove 100 miles, but it would have been worth a 1000 mile drive!
Tim Bluhm & the Coffis Brothers were fantastic as always! The venue was great as well. Big improvement from the last time I was there. Can’t wait to go back.
One of the VERY best shows I've ever seen--over 75 years! Deep, personal stories turned into beautiful music. What a voice. And made a great connection with the audience throughout. I'd attend another of her concerts in a heartbeat. Wonderful.
Outstanding venue, fantastic sound, great environment, and wonderful performance. Shawn Mullins show at the HopMonk in Novato was truly wonderful. We were so happy to see Shawn again after many years and he was of great voice, played his guitar beautifully and was a great story teller. We absolutely loved the show. KC Turner does it right as the producer of these great Cookout Concert Series shows.
Shawn's music has helped me through some pretty dark times over the past twenty+ years since I discovered him. Last night's show, complemented by David Jacobs-Strain and Bob Beach was awesome. They all brought a whole lot of soul and my only complaint is that they couldn't play all night. Really hoping to see them again soon!
You never know what Bob is going to play, but whatever he and his band choose is always ENTERTAINMENT. Great little venue, friendly staff, amiable security and a fine promoter made this a perfect evening.
Great show - Kingfish had a good review about mostly himself in the Contra Costa Times newspaper after appearing in the Napa BottleRock concert...only to find him playing the following day at a somewhat local Hopmonk Novato outdoor venue. We look forward to seeing him again later this year on the Blues Cruise, October 28th thru November 4th, 2023 leaving from San Diego.

Probably the best show I’ve seen in years.
Although you miss promoted it wrong.
It was only Bill Kirchen and Redd Volkart. NOT COMMANDER CODY! (Since he’s dead)
Venue was great. Very intimate.
Will return to see other great artists.
I had a wonderful time, - at Danny Click's Birthday show. I love Hop Monk, - the ambiance, nice people that work there, the musical venue, the food and drinks, - this is one of my favorite places to see a show. I always try to make it to a Danny Click and the Hell Ya's show at Hop Monk. It is a guaranteed great time !
JD is always great. He does songs from every source imaginable mixed in with some X and his own solo stuff from “Fables in a Foreign Land” and “The Westerner”. The JDT played beautifully - my wife was dancing most of the evening.
Glen was AMAZING!! He is sooooo talented. His music seriously “moves” me. So happy I got to see him live. He’s funny too. & smart. I enjoyed his stories as well as his singing & playing guitar. I hope he comes back to the Bay Area real soon. Also happy he signed my cd and took the time to pose for a picture with us. It really meant a lot to me. Thank you Glen & thank you to KC at KC Turner Presents! You guys ROCK!!!! xoxo
The show was great. However, the advertising including your own was false. It listed Van Morrison on the bill as well. NOT! Why would you add him to the bill if you didn’t have confirmation? I called Hopmark and they candidly stated that they knew nothing of Van Morrison showing up. Please be more diligent in the future. Than you.
Sincerely,
Donn Douglass
