Village Vanguard

First time at the Vanguard small intimate venue standing room only. They announced No recordings, pictures or videos during the show so it felt like how concerts used to be before cell phones which honestly made the whole experience that more special. Bill along with his band took all of us on what felt like a personal intimate musical journey, its what we call," he took us to church" moment. All players were in top form, the standout was the reed player Grey Tardy. His tenor complemented the music so well and his tone went straight through to your soul. The music that night felt like slow burners that built and gained momentum as Mr Frisell piloted the songs to its final destination of beauty, creativity and Improv. The final piece of the concert was Johnathan Blake. His playing was so spot on and complemented the music in a way that hasn't been seen since Shelly Manne. I would love to get the setlist of this show or a live recording from the Archives.Thank you Bill for a never to be forgotten night at the village Vanguard!

Absolutely superb. The quartet was wonderful and Julian Lage’s guitar playing was amazing. As usual, the Village Vanguard was a great place to hear Joe Lovano’s quartet.

Saw Brad w Gilad at Village Vanguard Pure magic Brad IS one of the predominant original voices in the world today on improvised and prepared piano. I dont call it Jazz . Brad is magic!

First time hearing Gilad. He was excellent. Played mostly his originals plus one by Mehldau. See them if you can.

Artemis is a fabulous group of musicians (who all just happen to be women) led by the wonderful Renee Rosnes, a jazz pianist/composer/arranger par excellence! It was their debut at the storied jazz club that has hosted the greatest musicians in the past 75 years.

Julian, Jorge Roeder and Dave King were firing on all cylinders at the Village Vanguard. The level of interplay and mastery of their instruments was amazing to witness.

In the beginning I thought they were not jiving together, but boy did they catch up! After the second piece, it all went so “together”. Danilo Perez is a great pianist, John Patitucci seems to be having such a good time playing! ! And the drums!!! A great evening!

My first time seeing her, and I was not disappointed. The musicianship, and the vocal quality were of course, stellar and were expected what was really disarming and positive was the theatricality and the humor that was infused into the show. It was a supremely satisfying experience, and I really appreciate having the chance to go.

Brilliant performance by an incredible artist Go to a Samara Joy show and be astounded

Watching and listening to Samara Joy at The Village Vanguard was witnessing history in the making! So happy to have been there!

Samara Joy is the most amazing, generous and beautiful superstar. Her concert was Joy!!

I never saw Samara Joy because when you first notified me in February the show dates for April at the vanguard were already sold out. And annoyingly Bandsintown continued to send me emails to attend a sold out event. Then I attempted to get tickets to see this artist at a different venue immediately upon receiving notification from Bandsintown that new show was just added and that was sold out too. I have little faith in Bandsintown to see artist’s I follow. I am sure had I seen this show it would have been amazing so I give Samara Joy 5 stars and Bandsintown no stars!

Brad and his fine quintet gave the packed audience their money’s worth of quality music. Christian McBride’s bass playing took center stage in my opinion. I was disappointed that Brad didn’t treat us to a solo piano song or two. Brad was good but not exceptional. The audience volume prior to the show was uncomfortably loud, over 95db. I wished I brought my earplugs.

Fantastic show and performance of Música De Las Américas, an album I was unfamiliar with. Would have loved to have picked up an LP but venue was already sold out when I attended on the final night.

One of the best Jazz shows I've seen over the last few years, if not THE best.
