The show that Bad Suns put on was very good; the acoustics were not. The 3 star rating is mostly due to the venue. The venue is intimate; it's basically an open area where everyone stands. There are areas on the sides where a person may be fortunate enough to sit. I mention this for the shorter people in the audience. If you don't maneuver your way towards the stage, you are going to be listening to the entertainment but not viewing them. It reminded me of the Ace of Spades in Sacramento; there are places to sit at the Ace of Spades if you want to pay considerably more. The Independent, which is the venue where Bad Suns performed, has a very limited balcony area but it was off limits for some reason. Back to Bad Suns' performance: the band performed for about 90 minutes. I am a big fan of the artist. The acoustics and the band's equipment did not play nice together. There were many times where it was hard to make out the vocals. Nonetheless, Bad Suns put on a very good show. If planning to attend a show at the Independent, I strongly suggest arriving early as parking availability is horrible.

Brilliant! Livingston did a very good job, his vocals were wonderful and the new songs were awesome! The crowd was well-behaved and the sound quality at the venue was very nice. We liked Connor Kauffman as an opener too.

Great energy. Small venue but sound quality was really good. His followers have quite the age range, kids as young as 6 years old and adults in mid-60’s plus every age in between. I look forward to following this young man’s career.

About The Independent

Since opening in 2004, The Independent has served as one of the premiere venues of San Francisco. The Independent brings a diverse mix of entertainment to its stage – from hip-hop to EDM, comedy to podcasts, and everything in between. Many of today’s biggest artists played their first shows in San Francisco at The Independent, including LCD Soundsystem, fun., Bon Iver, Vampire Weekend, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Foster the People, Miguel, Disclosure, M.I.A., The xx, Zedd, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Pretty Lights and The National. Well into their careers, superstar acts such as Green Day, The Black Eyed Peas, Phoenix, John Legend, Sonic Youth, Arctic Monkeys, Dave Chappelle and Beck have performed at our intimate 500-capacity club.
Noted for its robust sound and lights, perfect sightlines and a professional, courteous staff, the venue has become a staple for musicians, touring professionals and fans alike. Rostam Batmangli (formerly of Vampire Weekend) says of the space, “The Independent was a venue where we could connect with each person who came to see us. We played there a few times as we were coming up and each time that connection grew stronger.”
With a continuous schedule of emerging and varied performers on stage, The Independent plays a vital role in San Francisco’s storied live music past, present and future and is proud to serve as the foundation of a continuously evolving NOPA district.
