Saxon Pub

Jeff always assembles great players when he comes to town and last night was no exception. Scrappy Newcomb, Cari Hutson and a guest appearance by Guy Forsyth along with others turned the night into an awesome experience. Plank is just one TV appearance on a late night show from the stardom he deserves. Chris and I always catch his appearances when he comes to town. I don’t like coming into Austin at all but if Jeff is playing I’ll make the trip. Can’t wait for the next time but I guess I’ll have to. Thanks for a memorable evening. 😎

I’ve seen a lot of guitar shows. This wasn’t a guitar show, it was a musical conversation at a level most of us don’t have the vocabulary for. Greg Koch doesn’t just play guitar; he invents music in real time with tone, phrasing, humor, and zero predictability. But the magic is the Trio. Toby Marshall on Hammond B3 isn’t accompaniment, he’s a co-conspirator. Dylan Koch on drums doesn’t keep time, he shapes the conversation. This is three elite musicians locked in and loving every minute of it. You’ll hear blues, jazz, funk, country, and things you can’t name but wish you could play. Absolute 5-star show. Would see them again in a heartbeat.

What a festive night! It was EPIC! Pat Byrne & his band gave the sold-out show a night of holiday classics AND surprises with an array of amazing guests and musical twists ! I can’t pick a favorite performance because each song was wonderful . But Miles Zuniga’s take on Rudolph was crazy fun &John Chipman’s song was extra sweet!

Great venue to appreciate the talent of this fabulous trio. It was a celebration for Alex's mothers' birthday whom I had the pleasure of sharing a table with. They played many of their old songs and introduced me to an Italian song from a recording I did not know about. It looks like they no longer tour but I will make the effort to attend any concert they do perform.

Always a great show with Scrappy and the Gang My first time seeing the Resentments which is a song pass around. Especially enjoyed hearing “ Waiting On My Man” which took me right back to my years of insanity and “Let It Bleed” performed Resentments style. Wonderful way to spend a Sunday night. 😎.

Davy Knowles is a triple threat- great singer, great songwriter and a world class guitarist! What a show! Davy does things in the guitar I’ve never seen and he makes it look so effortless. He has the perfect voice for blues rock. Chris Duarte made a cameo and he and Davy traded some insane licks! One of the best shows I’ve ever seen! Go see Davy Knowles!

Patrons listened intently to his intro for his performance of his first songwriting experience of "Bad Habits." We especially enjoyed the Louisiana influenced songs. His banter between songs was smooth as silk as he transitioned between playing piano and guitar and as he highlighted his bands solos. His band was smoking hot for the bluesy finale, "Heavy metal" portion of the show.

Fantastic night, start to finish. Righteous Intonation was on top of their game as usual. The Saxon Pub is the perfect place to kick back, relax and take a break from the madness of day to day life. They are a perfect combination for a great evening.

Fantastic show! Jimmy brings so much passion and energy. A one-man band. He is all he needs. Incredible songwriter and performer! Thoroughly enjoyed every song. His style and storytelling between songs is phenomenal. Looking forward to the next gig!

Awesome, awesome, awesome !!!! Totally enjoyed Pat and his band . We had a Great Time . 2 friends and I came from La Vernia , about an hour and a half drive. It was so much fun, This was our 1st time at the Saxon Pub .We will definitely be back.

Greatest shown in town! WHAT A GATHERING OF TALENTED MUSICIANS! Their Monday night show at the Saxon Pub makes me gloriously happy. I wouldn't want to be any other place from 6-7:30 on a Monday night if Pat Byrne & his magical band are giving audiences a rollicking grand time!!! (no hyperbole)

Pat Byrne and his incredible band had the Saxon Pub rocking like a Saturday night celebration! (even though it was a Monday happy hour show). They balanced sweet, heartfelt numbers like "Mam's Song" and "Only a Man" with the clever upbeat "Capsize" and a wild version of Paul Simon's "50 Ways to leave your Lover." Pat Bryne is not only an incredibly talented songwriter & performer, but he also gives his band members the credit and stage time they deserve. All members wowed the crowd with their super groovy talents. They all made the "Happy Hour" show feel like a St. Patrick's Day was hanging out with Mardi Gras!!

Venue: Intimate. Fun. Waitresses work their butts off taking care of customers. Artist: I've been a big fan for a while. Awesome musician; solid vocalist; sings in an impressive array of styles. Music can be fun and raunchy. My only recommendation is that he reign in some of his more bizarre, s******y based moments... I get that he's a very creative sort and I love so much of his music, but these weird moments just leave you shaking your head and asking 'why?'. These detract from an otherwise impressive show. I'll certainly come back and see him again, but just hope that can polish away some of those rough moments and let the audience really love him for what he brings to the audience and larger music scene.

The Koch Marshall Trios recent visit to the Saxon Pub in Austin left an indelible impression with Greg, Toby, and Dylan delivering the goods! Having followed Greg through several permutations of his career, this current configuration, the Koch Marshall Trio, is by far the most dynamic and impactful representation of three supremely talented musicians' combined skill. Power trio is not an adequate adjective to describe the drive, immersive, and utter jaw-dropping musical prowess of a band that is tighter than a square knot. See them if you can. You will not be disappointed. But be forewarned, this band is the real deal and old school loud. Bring that hearing protection for smaller venues like the Saxon. Kudos fellas, you killed!

I’m not too much into poetry-sounds like rap to me. But I do appreciate it when its set to music and it is a song. Sam Baker songs are great. Sang a couple of my favorites. Rodney Crowell was pretty darn good his own self.

This show was one of my all-time favorites! Radney is such an amazing musician! Being in the audience in such an intimate setting was an emotional experience. Radney's music really moves you. He's such a genuine man, and he truly loves sharing his passion for music. I hope to see him again in another small venue.

There are no two musicians anywhere who listen to each other and inspire one another like Johnny and Scrappy Judd. I've been hearing them at the Saxon Pub for over 10 years and they NEVER phone it in. The Fan Appreciation show at the Saxon on 12/26 was just as good as the Christmas show they did at the Saxon in 2013, when Cindy Cashdollar was still playing with them. I would not hesitate to name these guys playing together as the most exciting and emotionally moving experience of my musical lifetime. Terry's show was excellent! What a pro! We've known Terry for over 35 years and have followed his career from Delbert days and Lee Roy Parnell days! We are so proud of his success with McBride and The Ride! He is such a talented songwriter and deserves all the accolades and awards that are coming his way especially being one of the 2024 class of honorees into the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame! Congratulations Terry! We love you!!! Mary, Mark, and Sonia!

We attend every show by "Del Castillo Trio" at Saxon Pub and have since they started this pared-down version of "Del Castillo." These are world-class musicians and to be able to see them at a neighborhood hangout is incredible -- we are so fortunate to have these talented songwriters and performers right here in Austin!

The show was incredible. My husband followed Bob all around Austin in the 90's when he was leading the Ugly Americans. He was so excited when I surprised him with this cool, small venue concert. Bob and his band are true performers and we had the best time. The Saxon Pub was an incredible venue. We had excellent service and the drinks were on-point!
