There was an issue with the line outside, (more the fault of the venue and circumstance than anything) that had me waiting for a couple hours. However, it was followed up by the best show I’ve ever attended, the energy was through the roof, the pit was insane, and Femtanyl herself is such a good performer. It was so worth the wait.
Orgy came on about 20-30 minutes late, which pushed Cold's start time back. Cold were supposed to play 10:15-11:15, they didn't start until close to 11:30. Other than that the sound was good. Orgy sounded way better than they did a few years ago
Uli ran the gamut!
Set one was Mozart and sections of Verdi’s Four Seasons as well as a 9-string improv. It’s all in his head, no sheet music of course. Uli commented on the pieces, interacted with the audience, keeping the Bossanova a cozy venue. He complemented the sound quality of the ballroom, and patiently waited for his tech to sort out a Wi-Fi issue before he could proceed with Winter. He expressed his enjoyment of the music, which contributed to his audience’s enjoyment!
Set two was mainly Scorpions revisited. Especially noteworthy were Earthquake from Electric Sun, Catch Your Train and the monumental closer, Sails of Charon! All crunching and flawlessly beautiful.
What an opportunity it was to attend!
What an amazing experience! Absolutely loved every minute of it from the first performers to the last, the show was truly one of the best I have seen in such a long time. Highly recommend anyone who has never heard of these bands to check them out, because you never know, they might just make you a fan like they did me…
Julien-K are great performers. With heavy, dance-able tunes and stage presence that screams they love what they do. They always run their own merch booth, signing items and taking pictures with fans. They take the time to answer questions. Amir has the wickedest fashion! Ryan is always smiling and bright, even after singing his booty off, and Galen is a high energy drummer. You’d be wise to check out their next performance in the area. Always a great time. Thanks, too, to Julien-K for bringing Swedish group Priest to PDX three times now! We love them!
Devourment was good, Injested were good, but the crowd and I were there for Extermination Dismemberment who absolutely CRUSHED. The staff was nice and the sound was good but could have been louder. The place was absolutely packed and there was a non-stop moshpit. Great show, lots of fun.
Obscura played great! The set was mixed with their older death metal incarnation and new progressive death metal. Buuuut, they were ruined by a horrible sound guy who mixed the drums too high, with everything else lower. He seemed like he was battling when to up sound the guitar solos. They were plagued by whoever handled the smoke machine. It went off multiple times in during a whole song. Again, Obscura played great through the 30 minutes of air pollution.
This show was just so amazing in every way! My favorite metal show to date! Going in, I knew it was going to be like a quad-headlined show.. The local opening act, Vintersea was great too! Thulcandra was amazing(was their second U.S. show!) Wolfheart as well, and they just seemed very happy to be there, and they brought the house down. Obscura was amazing, projecting quantity musicianship from beginning to end as they do.. Fleshgod Apocalypse is the band I was least familiar with going in, but they will be a favorite now.. I LOVED THEM! They were so happy to finally support their 2019 album, and had such energy.. I loved their interaction with us.. This show was so great in every way! 🤘🏼🤯🤘🏼 The app won't let me post pictures to this right now.. but I had such an amazing time!
I’ve been going to see Fishbone since the early 90’s. I’ve seen them all up & down the west coast. This show was amazing. Ran into Angelo outside before the show, and he asked how it was going. I told him I was about to see the best band in history play. And he’s like oh yeah, well I think they’re playing right now. Gotta love the humbleness of 1 musician telling me to check out opening acts. And yes the 2 opening bands blew me away. King Youngblood & Jer both brought their game. This lineup was absolutely insane & a great time. Fishbone is red hot. Fishbone soldier for lIfe!
Would give it a 5, but Bad Omens’ fans are sh**. Someone groped my partner and it lead to me and him having an altercation. Security was a little lazy with alerting for crowd surfers which lead to me pulling a muscle behind my shoulder blade from catching people😭other than that, it was an amazing show. The bands were flawless. I cried during Dayseeker’s entire Set🖤
It was great to see MMF and Wolves live. Didn’t care for the other two bands. The Venus was really cool and as a person that does not live in Portland, really easy to get to. Very glad I was able to see them!
Badass show!!!!! Awesome venue and an old metal show vibe with stage diving and crowd surfing. Nostalgia at its finest. I loved in when security is so tight at these shows anymore. Almost thought about going to the Seattle show tonite but work is in the way. Can’t wait for the next one.
Awesome show. Only let down was the singer of Veil of Maya was suddenly sick and didn't perform. There was no announcement either. They just started playing with no singer. It was strange. We really hoping to have a quick meet and greet too but the two main bands just took off after playing. Still super fun and great show.
I ended up not coming because something had come up. I was really looking forward to seeing them because they’re my favorite band. But I’m still gonna give 5 stars because I know that they never EVER disappoint! I hope to see you guys next time and I hope it’ll be soon
Opener 1: Blackwater Holylight: 5 gorgeous and talented women who play lush, doomy dreams. Hubba, hubba.
Opener 2/Co-headliner: Earthless: Holy. F#*king. Sh!tballs. I thought I was tripping. A-to-the-Ma-to-the-Zing.
Last but 100%-certified NEVER least: Y O B: Cosmic, Crushing, Progedelic Doom-Metal At. Its. Finest. Bar None. A simultaneous external & internal experience; a musical Tai-Chi, if you will. *bliss* As ever, "Thank you, Mike, Aaron & Travis!"
Quite good show (Cannabis Corpse and Psycroptic are always amazing live, and Micawber were equally so). Gorod not showing up was a disappointment (I didn't hear that they had to drop out until I got to the show) but everybody else put on a great show.
I can hardly complain about the performances I saw and had a great time but it wasn't as legendary as having one of my all-time favorite bands play would have been
Show was excellent. The fan base was very fake,poppy,rude... as a long term hypocrisy fan it pained me to see what their fan base has become... in the bathroom I was vomited on and aggressive women trying to push me out of the bathroom because somehow their “urination” is of higher importance besides the repulsive people who attended the show! All the bands were excellent and I’m really glad I saw the show!
Brilliant as always. The Uli-verse is incredibly diverse. 70’s Scorpions killers, Electric Sun, beautiful 8-string flamenco/indian artistry, even surf and Hendrix moments. A guitarists guitarist, truly one of the best of the best. Venue was not the right fit or sound for him, should play in a seated theater, hopefully next time!
This room could not contain this legendary band. Fans lined up around 2 blocks. Their last 3 albums are as good as anything recorded by any band in recent years. This band from the 80’s are on their way up. Incredible last decade. Michael Sweet is a 🎶 genius.
I wouldn't take any of it back. There's nothing like a big show at a small venue. I think it's rare big name bands do small venue's, and it was badass! I hope Whitechapel puts Portland Oregon on its map for future shows! Horns Up \,,,/
