I own J.Mc Duff, J.Smith, Mc Griff, I am so glad that new generation guys are taking over this beautiful instrument . It's an analog concept and sound wonderful . It was a proverbial "one of those nights," and perhaps even "one of those days" that evening at the Banana Peel. When Carolyn took the stage, it seemed as if she first had to shake off the weight. After a deep sigh, she began her first set, promisingly so, and with the dedication we've come to expect from her. Not very communicative, though. Together with Shelley King, she steadily built up the first hour to a higher dimension. Even the bassist had traded his isolated position for one closer to the rest of the group, his microphone still unused. But then disaster struck: Carolyn tore her fingernail during one of her many solos. Quite painful, as we all witnessed. End of the first half of the evening. After a rather long break, the group returned with renewed vigor. Fate number two of the evening: lost voice. Consequently, after three songs in the second half, Carolyn called it a day. The organizer's timid attempt to add an instrumental didn't change her mind. Although the audience was pleased with Carolyn's and Shelley's occasionally strong performances, it's hard to call this a top evening. Which hopefully wasn't the case the night before in Amsterdam—certainly not "one of those nights" on her birthday, right?
