The Freight

This was one of the best concerts I have ever attended. Bill's playing was flawless and gave me shivers . The harmony with the pedal steel was perfect. jaw dropping. The bassist was tight, the dude was in the zone. just amazing. The drummer was out of this world and his drumming was beautiful to watch. I really enjoyed it for 3 reasons. 1. It's Bill Frissel! 2. It was at the Freight & Salvage whose friendly professional service and comfy seats along with the great acoustics made it magical. 3. I won the tickets from dothebay . I'm 72 and never won a damn thing before. To wrap it up, thank you, thank you. It was sweet. W.H. Myers.

Lisa Fischer and her band were amazing as usual but the sound mixing at The Freight and Salvage wasn’t great. The guitars were over amped compared to Ms Fischer’s voice so that we couldn’t hear the delicious quieter nuances of her voice that really bring depth to her songs.

So glad I went to see & hear BREABACH at the Freight & Salvage! I discovered this band on YouTube when I was looking for Gaelic bands that featured bagpipes or accordions along with fiddles! Since I had downloaded their whole album, Fast, I knew the tunes well! Had a great time!

Incognito put on one of the finest shows I've ever seen. There were four vocalists led by Maysa, who has sung with Incognito for many years. All four sang harmony but are soloists in their own right and showed the full extent of their amazing capabilities. Phenomenal horn and rhythm section led by Jean-Paul 'Bluey' Maunick who formed the band in 1981. With 19 albums to their credit, Incognito is an international phenomenon selling out large venues from Rome to Jakarta. For some reason they are not that well known in the United States and seeing them in a venue as intimate as The Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, CA was a real treat.

Wonderful venue. Clean, modern, friendly staff and terrific sound. The show was good, tho Teddy Thompson is not the friendliest fellow on stage. Jenni makes up for his surliness by being very open and outgoing. Most importantly they sing so beautifully together. See them if you get the opportunity.

Absolutely wonderful !!!! The talent was extraordinary! We used to go every year when his show was in Modesto Ca . It's been a lot of years since then and we're so glad we finally found them in Berkley. It filled my heart with joy ! Thanks everyone !

Coco Montoya is always fantastic. His warm personality comes through with every note. Emotionally direct songs with excellent guitar playing makes each and every number a winner. And what a band! Nate Brown, Rene Beavers and Jeff Paris are all monster musicians in their own right. Freight & Salvage is one of the best rooms in the Bay Area. Everyone working there is super friendly and there’s not a bad seat in the house. It’s just a block and a half from the Downtown Berkeley BART station, so you don’t even have to deal with traffic or parking. If you ever get a chance to see Coco Montoya live, don’t even think about it, just go.

Amazing guitarist with a flair of interaction and engaging with the audience. The three-guitar was a bit much but still technically good to hear about.. Quite impressive how a one-man show could two-handedly reprise some big time hits such as "my Sharona" and "sweet child of mine" with such simplicity The explanation of misirlou and demo as well was quite impressive. The self deprecation as well. Great job all around. Only suggestion I'd give him is have two parts to the show: one with a percussion piece and the other just by himself.

My first time at the Freight and Salvage, very nice for sure. This was about my fifth time seeing Pat Metheny, I’m a major fan, this show was a bit more subdued than other shows I’ve attended, of course being that it was a solo performance understandably so. There’s no doubt he is a master at his art and I have the utmost appreciation for that talent, there was one tune that he performed that I seriously thought that he had lost his mind right there on stage, but it was an expression from him that I’ve never heard, couldn’t say that it was a fav. Did really enjoy the show as it was.

Wow! What an amazing show. We loved every second of it! Pat is an amazing showman and an Incredible guitar player. I have been a fan for about 40 years and couldn't have enjoyed the show more! Thank you Pat!

I (we - 8 of us) have never seen a show so moving and stellar in years, probably decades. We were lucky enough to get front row seats dead center, we could see everything and that added to the thrill. There is a sound that is completely "Pat Metheny" you know it straight out of the box. So refreshing, passionate and heartfelt. I don't want to spoil the show for others, so I won't say much more than find your own passion by going to the "Dream Box" show if you can. You will want to be able to say that you were there for your children's children.

In spite[ of the pouring rain and wind that blew umbrellas inside out , the show was spectacular . After visiting with friends, we enjoyed real Hawaiian music, dancing and talk story. We were in a warm and friendly place; just like Hawaii. Mary Alice

Absolutely stellar performance! Four of the best instrumentalists there are in today's music world. Together they are a dynamic force that is unmatched anywhere. It is plain to see that they love performing together and the joy they exude sweeps the audience along like a tidal wave. Wear your dancing shoes!

Dave sounded better than ever. Great song selection from Dave’s catalog. Even broke out a new song. Band was super tight and looked to be having fun. Too bad the crowd didn’t get up and dance until close to the end of the show. Must have been all those masks in the crowd.

Spent money for memories and sharing….Love Her and will be supporting her career for the long haul Love this venue….

I had not heard of Bill Frisell until I saw an article on him and the 4 nights of concerts in the Weekend section of the East Bay Times on September 8 but he sounded interesting. I listened to some of his music on YouTube. I asked my son if he knew Bill Frisell, and he did and had a CD of his music. Tickets were sold out for Saturday, when my son could have joined us, but my wife and I got tickets for Sunday night. We were mesmerized by the concert. Bill Frisell's way of playing seems unique, beautiful and almost ethereal. His trio is so tight and interacts so sensitively. The Harmony singers and players added something else to the concert. Petra Hayden has a fantastic voice and the harmony from the men who sang with her and played a second guitar and cello, especially the latter, added another dimension to the music. All in all, it was a wonderful concert.

Coco Montoya is an easy choice for me. Lyrical solos and a stunning voice, he’s a must-see if he’s anywhere within 250 miles. More chills per note than anyone else I can think of at the moment. And his band is an absolute powerhouse. If he’s within a tank of gas of wherever you happen to be, just go. You will not be disappointed.

Suzy Bogguss and her two man band..sounded great. They played Merle Haggard standards and of course her hits. They have a tight sound and play a marriage country, rock, and jazz. Suzy’s voice sounds strong and excited to be on stage. It’s nice to go see someone who is a songbird, singer/songwriter, and entertainer who engages you to be apart of the show.

Another GREAT show, "put together" by George and Nancy. The Freight was its usual, spectacular venue. A favorite on mine which I always highly recommend to all. Fun to be back at a live performance. The Freight has Covid security measures in place and enforced like no other I have witnessed. Requirements for entry exceeded those imposed by local hospitals.

Along with many local hardcore music fans I fully enjoyed the awesome purpose built venue and of course Sawyer Fredericks and his band. True blue straight shooting lyrics and moving arrangements are what Sawyer Fredericks brings to every show and this one did not disappoint. You have to see him live to have any idea how he creates an unavoidable vibe that you can't help but latch on to and experience. Track him here an go.
