Jammin Java

They don’t play live often but are must see when they do. This show opened with Acoustic Tom powered but spot on vocals from lead singer Luke White. Eventually transitioned to a full electric band playing songs off their new album ‘The Way It Never Was’. From ‘Wake Up The Night’ to ‘Heroes’ to the harder ‘Let Me Show You How It’s Done’. I was looking forward to seeing them live again, now I’m in post-show depression. Until the next time!!

New Orleans came to Northern Virginia! Eric Johanson and his band delivered a great show at Jammin’ Java August 3rd. The tight rhythm section left Eric to improvise and fly. Great original blues rock and pure blues ruled the first set through Eric’s Duesenberg guitars and his outstanding resonator guitar playing dominated the second set~~~~in particular Son House’s Death Letter. The band played two honest one-hour sets and Eric wowed the audience and won us over with his singing and guitar prowess. It was my first time hearing him live and I’m looking forward to the next. I’m a fan, thanks Eric!

I’ve been hoping to see Kelly Willis for a long long time. She hasn’t toured the mid-Atlantic for a while, so I jumped at the chance to make a short road trip to Vienna. She was amazing. Her voice is the best contemporary oner in Country and was as solid as ever. Played a long set, with lots of my favs and was lovely and charming with banter in between them. The venue is very convenient for the audience with comfortable seating, easy parking and great sound. Show ends at a decent hour for us “mature” fans

It was an Awesome show….we love Stephen Stanley’s music! Our first time to the quaint and intimate venue and we couldn’t have been happier with the experience. Excellent pizza was a bonus! Loved how personal it was and that we got to meet & talk all the artists after the show and take photos. It was a very memorable night for our family!

Walter was terrific! The house was sold out and everyone was feeling Walter’s scorching vibes! The band was made up of seasoned musicians who had resumes that included the Edgar Winter Band, Dylan’s studio band and Crosby, Stills and Nash. Walter paid tribute more than once to his “mentor, friend and father” who he claimed was very patient with him in his early years (1982-1987) with the Bluesbreakers—-that person being John Mayall. Walter played Courage in the Night from his latest album (number 31) Broken. He also played Red Sun from Soul Survivor. The entire set list was great and the crowd was loving it. Walter mentioned he had just finished album number 32, so he’s just as active and prolific as he was 40 years ago! We are so fortunate and lucky to still have this Bluesbreaker Crusader taking the stage and showing us how it’s done! Thanks, Walter and company. See you next time.

Outstanding! Although familiar with his music I was a newbie to the live Ike Reilly show. The documentary was a nice way for some of us to catch up on his and his family’s history, and helped anchor the set that followed. Two of his three sons joined him and his phenomenal band.

This was an excellent and fun event featuring five talented women. Lena Traynham was the highlight for me. She can carry any song as her own. Lena’s performance of her original and Taylor’s material displayed her exceptional range and stage presence. I was excited to hear about her upcoming EP in May. Great concert!

I love candi with my entire heart they’re a phenomenal artist and they did amazing crowd work! They even sat down and played everybody goes to hell in the crowd with us. I was introduced to some amazing artists too at this concert! Zee machine was full of energy and their set was so fun! Kalie had such a great voice and she was so funny., amazing performance! Jenna had a STUNNING voice, will definitely check out all of the other artists!

Adrian is, always, simply amazing and last night was no exception. I've been a fan of fingerstyle guitar for decades, even hosting private concerts, featuring the best of the best from all over the world, in my home for 25 or so years, and Adrian is simply one of the best. This Saturday he'll make his 10th appearance in the series I modestly call "Live from Rob's Living Room"

Nichols is a great arranger and player, and his songwriting is unafraid to live in the darkness that underlies the blues. His rasp, and Spencer Tate's mandolin and violin voicing, really works well with the resonator + slide sound, on both his originals and covers. "The kind of suffering that created the blues is not the natural state of the world if you ask me. It ought not be. It is just the result of greed. And we could do something about that if we care enough."

Wonderful evening at Jammin Java for Rains Draper, Pictrola, and headliner Chatham Rabbits. The venue was awesome....Union Pizza never disappoints. The lineup was perfect...DC-based singer/songwriter Rains Draper and local bluegrass band kicked off the evening with two sets of outstanding music, warming up the crowd for the main attraction, Chatham Rabbits. Sarah and Austin McCombie took the stage just before 9pm and nailed it! The NC-based duo gave a rousing performance, performing 14 songs from their repertoire, including a few from their upcoming album. Both Sarah and Austin are outstanding vocalists and instrumentalists and did not disappoint. Mix in some humorous banter as well as the back story of some of the songs and the night was a hit...we'll be back!

The venue: spacious yet small enough to get to know the band. Delicious food, well-stocked bar. The performers: tremendously talented, friendly, and just amazing in person. The event: really cool! You could tell that all three acts are a pretty tight-knit unit, and they love to get audience participation, even going into the audience! If you're on the dance floor and really grooving, there's a great chance you may even end up in one of their music videos after the tour!

I was thrilled to find out Vonda would be playing Jammin' Java! This is my favorite small venue - easy to get to, free parking, reasonably priced food and drinks, no bad seat in the house, great acoustics, and friendly servers (and all ages!). I last saw Vonda during her Ally McBeal fame, in a much larger venue, around 1999. I have followed her music since and always enjoy her recorded work. She is a fantastic live performer, with a super talented band. It was a great show. If you have a chance to see Vonda live, you should definitely go!

Sarah and Austin brought their A game last night! Great set…these guys are ready to break out! I’m glad they played the Java, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they soon get opportunity to play much bigger gigs and we end up having to see them down the road and a bit larger Vienna venue 😃!

It was the most amazing night of my life!!! I had gotten the VIP MEET AND GREET so I was able to meet them and take a photo of them which I loved every second!!! Plus they had a Q&A with the group of vips so awesome!! When they played, they were just killing it!! I knew almost every word to their covers!! I hope they come back to Virginia soon!!

Great show. I don’t follow the group through social media (except for watching their videos on YouTube), so I didn’t realize there would be two warmup acts. All of the artists were excellent with great energy and enthusiasm. I highly recommend you check them out b/c it’s not common to see artists this good while they are still touring small venues. Keep in mind, these are cover bands, but if you enjoy the songs they are covering, you won’t be disappointed. In addition, they have great stage presence despite this being one of their first tours. I hope they do well, get the right support from fans, family, etc. and keep going.

Cory is hands down the most talented songwriter and performing working today. I have seen him 6 times over the past 8 years. I would have seen him 10 more during that time if I could've made it happen. Above all Cory is a tremendous performer and a class act - a true southern gentleman. Incredibly polite when you meet him post show. Go see Cory Branan. You won't regret it.

Jesse is a talented singer-songwriter with great comedic timing and genuine love in his heart. In a world where negativity seems to be ubiquitous, it is refreshing to be in his air space. I first saw him open for Liz Longley and gladly bought tickets to his solo show when he returned to the venue. Glad I did!

Great one-man show. He did the sampling show that was raved about in guitar magazine that he created for Joe Bonamassa s keeping the blues alive cruise. I love the mid day show, but it was a small turnout. I hope he does more there. Love that venue.

So great to see Matt and his band perform in the area again in just a few months! Well worth taking off work at lunchtime and driving 4 hours to NoVA for the show! What a great surprise to get so many songs from past albums, and the quaint venue made for a wonderfully intimate concert experience!
