There is simply so much going on: expression, energy, stage presence, power, physical impact, incredible coordination skills, rapid and flexible changes in rhythm and tempo, as well as an extraordinary degree of tonal and technical precision — and she does all of this from memory, without a single sheet of music in front of her. Lucy Landymore gives the impression that she has thought through and meticulously coordinated every single stroke on every drum and every note on the vibraphone during the rehearsals beforehand, right down to the tiniest detail. On top of that, she draws on a huge variety of techniques, styles and cultural influences that the drum set and vibraphone have to offer. Her stage presence and charisma also deserve special mention. Imposing yet highly sensitive body language gives her playing both graceful elegance and powerful spectacle. And that’s not all. When she is delivering these highly complex performances, she usually does so with a visible and genuinely authentic, wonderfully naïve joy of playing that is absolutely infectious. Her playing feels so inviting. You almost want to play along with her, and she comes across as though she is simultaneously the most enthusiastic audience member at her own concert. Lucy, you have definitely added another major building block towards turning me into a classical music enthusiast. * Your drive and determination to innovate, your resilient refusal to see classical music as a rigid monolith, * your radical individualism in giving works your own personal touch without blurring their distinctive core, * and your love of playing — expressed above all through your desire for musical and communicative “self-expression” — have ultimately led me to the following realisation, and indeed to a rather radical change in the way I understand music: “Actually, one does not simply love music. In fact, it is music that loves you.”

Hania Rani ist immer ein Erlebnis, ob im Kraftwerk, ein normales Konzert oder in der Philharmonie. Diesmal war es besonders denn es war ein Piano Konzert, erst Solo, dann mit einem kleinen Orchester. Einfach Grandios!

Großartig, wer Chilly Gonzales noch nicht gesehen hat, sollte unbedingt ein Konzert von Ihm besuchen. Dies war mein 9. Konzertbesuch, seine Musik, sein Klavierspiel und die Performance sind genial. Meine nächsten Konzerte habe ich schon gebucht.

Show was good, lights were good, and overall great performance. But, sitting right of stage in F, sound quality was abysmal and bass was ordinary.
