Artist bio
Born from camaraderie and chaos, Last Waltzon is a four-piece art punk group based in Montreal. Formed in 2021, Jack, Judah, Cameron, and Josh bonded over bands like Women and The Velvet Underground, crafting a euphonious noise of unhinged punk vigor with pop sensibilities.
Their sound channels the raw vocal power of The Sonics’ Gerry Roslie and The Fall’s Mark E. Smith, paired with hazy guitars reminiscent of Chicago’s Twin Peaks and angular rhythms of 1970’s CAN records. Live, they deliver infectious performances filled with spontaneous onstage antics, fostering an energetic exchange with the audience.
Recording at Holy Mountain Sound in downtown Montreal, with mixing by Chris Szczech (known for The Garden and Goo Goo Dolls), Last Waltzon's catalog reflects their sonic diversity. They've shared stages with acts like The Psychotic Monks and Mamalarky, alongside local favorites No Waves and Pypy.
Tracks like “I Can’t Cook” blend traditional punk structure with experimental flair, while “Fat Piss” delivers punchy rhythms and dissonant guitars reminiscent of Sonic Youth. “Down Under” echoes the ironic lyricism of Fat White Family, brimming with playful double entendres.
Their latest single, “Rehash,” is a tight, propulsive bass-driven tune, showcasing their penchant for genre-bending exploration. Last Waltzon revels in the rebellious past of post-punk while deconstructing the genre at its core.
