Born in New Orleans in the 1970s and raised along the salt-stained Gulf Coast of Mobile, Alabama, Josh Davis grew up with a fishing pole in one hand and a guitar never too far from the other. His earliest memories trace back to long days on Dog River, walking railroad tracks, and exploring beneath the old railroad bridge—moments that planted a lifelong love of wandering and chasing what lay around the next bend. He was behind a drum kit by six, playing guitar by twelve, and performing in orchestras, marching bands, and any group that would have him before most kids his age could read sheet music.
Before music became his full-time calling, Davis answered another one: service. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and graduated boot camp at Parris Island in 1997, later serving in the Marine Corps Reserve. Afterward, he worked as a police officer in Greenville, Alabama, where watching legendary country acts Shenandoah and Sawyer Brown from side-stage lit a fire under his long-standing love for music. He played drums with the Christian hard-rock group Death Row Pardon, but the pull toward something bigger never left.
In 2001, Davis returned to college and completed graduate school before accepting a commission into the United States Army as an Infantry Officer. From 2006 until his medical retirement in 2017, he served with distinction—including a deployment to Sadr City, Iraq, that left him with combat-related injuries and two Bronze Stars. The weight of that career shaped both the grit and the depth of the artist he is today.
After the uniform came off, the music came roaring back. Davis now channels everything he's lived—war, healing, fatherhood, love, loss, and the long road back from what service leaves behind—into gritty, cinematic outlaw country. His songs carry the weight of a man who walked through hell and found something on the other side still worth singing about. A proud father of six and a grandfather, he performs more than 200 shows a year across the Gulf Coast and touring nationally, building a reputation as an award-winning independent artist whose voice cuts through the noise.
Today, Josh Davis stands as one of the Gulf Coast's most compelling outlaw country voices—an artist shaped by the road, refined by service, and defined by stories only a life like his can tell.
