Lifter Biography

Wistful, melodic and joyfully unpredictable, Bristol-based indie-folkers became the main focus of songwriter Harry Fanshawe after the breakup of Modern Rituals. Also featuring Angus Rudd of the Death of Pop, the band released a collection of their first eight singles, “Everything So Far”, on September 27th. Reflecting the lofi indie rock of the band's early sound, in the vein of Guided by Voices or Sebadoh; the new material they are currently performing and in the process of completing on record homes in on a folkier, lighter pastoral sound.

The first single of that batch will be released on April 10th: folk-horror epic, The Lingering Death of a Maverick King. Navigating pastoral-green hills and navy-grey skies, Lifter's newest exploration tells a story from the eyes of remnants who see others pursuing new ground, while they're left behind to ponder the past. Focusing on the need for renewal to gain growth, the lyrics look to Nature's ability to recycle as a means for continuation. Demonstrating an intricate scope, at once pastoral and bright, yet foreboding and gloomy, the sonic trip is matched by the lively narrative horizon.

Another self-produced track from Bristol's Lifter, "The Lingering Death of a Maverick King" is the first single off their eagerly anticipated debut album, to be released late in 2024. To coincide with the release of this single, they have worked with videographer/director Sam Wisternoff to create an epic video that aesthetically sits somewhere between A Field in England and The Wicker Man.
