Double Date With Death

Led by songwriter Vincent Khouni on vocals, guitar and musical direction, Double Date with Death (DDWD) is a French-language rock band, with an aesthetic oscillating between the 70s and its contemporaries (Chocolat, Corridor). Their songs are catchy and energetic, sometimes reminiscent of Beach Fossils, The War On Drugs or Jonathan Richman, but in French s'il vous plait, since their two most recent albums, L'Au-Dela and Portraits, both well received in Quebec, France (Liberation, Les Inrocks, Rolling Stone France...) and even USA (BrooklynVegan: "Montreal band hide a couple of lovely, distinctive, hooky dreampop nuggets inside a mountain of crazed guitar psych, revved up, reverb-drenched riffing, an adrenalized brand of psych rock mainly in the Oh Sees/Ty Segall shriekabilly garage, albeit with a French Canadian twist of the tongue"). They stand out with a strong artistic approach, highlighted by a nomination at ADISQ 2023 for Album Cover of the Year. With Guillaume Chiasson (Bon Enfant) recording and co-producing, their last two albums were nominated for Rock Albums of the Year 2020 and 2023, at the Gala Alternatif de la Musique Indépendante du Québec. Their most recent album, Portraits, features a more melodic sound, and experimented with new instruments. Particularly noteworthy is Labyrinthe, which plunges us into the heart of a sonic spiral guided by the transverse flute of Les Deuxluxes' Anna Frances Meyer. They are preparing a 3rd album in French, darker, more abrasive and minimalist.
