Screen Door Porch Biography

"They have transformed roots music into something much larger...a down home goodtime vibe...sonic hypnosis has set in and Screen Door Porch seems like the only place to live." (Industry Executive Bill Bentley’s Bandstand Best Releases)

“Screen Door Porch lends an easy Western flair to their more prominent native influences of North Carolina and Kentucky, a combination that goes down as smoothly as top-shelf bourbon.” (Austin Chronicle)

Casting an artful sound with lyrical purpose that nods to Soulful Americana, Roots-Rock, and vintage Country-Blues, Screen Door Porch is akin to “Stevie Nicks meets The Band, with Ryan Adams and Bonnie Raitt hanging out backstage” (605 Magazine). It's grooving, electrified Porch music adorned with the soulful pipes of Seadar Rose and propped-up by Aaron Davis's gritty slide guitar, quirky banjo pickin' and an infectious rollercoaster of a live show, which showcases the rawness of their acoustic roots heroes combined with the spirit of late 60s/70s rock and roll. The core songwriting/multi-instrumentalist pair evokes a downhome vibe with rustic harmonies and “a sort of Lennon/McCartney arrangement and get it right every time” (Americana UK).

Every setting has a resonance, an energy that vibrates through the streets and whistles in the trees. Absorbing the subtleties of these moments that could just as easily escape a conscious mind is exactly what Screen Door Porch’s songwriting pair Seadar Rose and Davis learned to embrace with Pay it Forward, the band's fourth studio release. Pay it Forward EP (2017) was recorded in an intimate log cabin on the outskirts of Jackson Hole, Wyoming and yields five new original songs recorded with longtime drummer/harmony singer Andy Peterson and electric/upright bassist David Bundy along with several studio guests adding fiddle, organ, upright piano, trumpet, and glockenspiel.

The latest groundswell of original music in Wyoming is head turning, and Screen Door Porch is proud to be an integral part of the movement. The band’s contributions from both a musical perspective and as proponents of the Wyoming music community as a whole were recognized by the State of Wyoming last year. The band was selected represent the state's music scene and a national ad campaign followed, which includes a film piece that has already reached over half a million views on YouTube. Around the same time, Wyoming Public Radio listeners voted the band’s 2015 release Modern Settler the ‘Album of the Year.’ SDP’s first two studio albums—Screen Door Porch (2010) and The Fate & The Fruit (2012)—were internationally recognized in eight “Best Albums of the Year” lists and charted in the Top 25 of the Euro-Americana Radio Chart and Roots Music Report Chart.

A national touring act since 2010—predominantly as a Quartet or Duo, and occasionally as a Quintet—the band has been fortunate to perform at over three dozen festivals including the Treefort Music Fest, Targhee Bluegrass Fest, South by Southwest, and Magic City Blues Fest while sharing theater and club bills with some of their favorite artists—Buddy Guy, Sam Bush, Steve Earle, Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, Nicki Bluhm, Hayes Carll, Grace Potter, Reckless Kelly and Justin Townes Earle among them.

Paste Magazine found the band to be “an impressive musical discovery" while they appeared in a full-page feature in The New York Times for touring "The Wyoming Way," pointing out the band’s impressive live performances and touting Seadar Rose and Davis’s “entrepreneurial gumption in founding the multi-act WYOmericana Caravan Tour, a traveling concert circus.” It was 2013 when Screen Door Porch launched the annual WYOmericana Caravan Tour, a rotating cast of Wyoming-based acts showcasing original music and cross-band collaborations while "caravanning" the region like an old-school musical revue. The Caravan tour celebrates its 5th Anniversary in 2017.
