SHAPE OF WATER Biography
ROX CAPRIOTTI: Vocals, bass guitar, keys, production
LUCA DE FALCO: Guitars, vocals, production, artworks
TOM MONK: Live drums
Shape of Water is an electronic art rock band hailing from Manchester, United Kingdom, formed in 2018 by Rox Capriotti and Luca De Falco. Their music has been described as "genre-fluid," transcending traditional boundaries and welcoming all listeners into their world.
Rox and Luca met in 2004 in their hometown of San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy, and formed their first band together, The Lotus. After relocating to Manchester in 2015, the duo went on to create Shape of Water, writing dozens of songs that dealt with the misconception of human feelings, politics, and society.
Their debut album, Great Illusions, was produced and mixed by Paul Reeve (Muse, Beta Band, Supergrass) with Sky Van Hoff (Rammstein, Kreator, Caliban) also mixing two singles. The album was released in the summer of 2020, receiving critical acclaim from respected media outlets such as
Classic Rock, Rolling Stone.de, and Metal.de, among others. Despite being unable to promote the album live due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Shape of Water quickly adapted by live-streaming several performances, which were widely received. In early 2021, the band reinvented some of their songs for an EP release entitled Lockdown On Mars. They also released a live EP called Livestream From Mars, recorded during the successful live stream series of the same name. After the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions, Shape of Water finally returned to live performances in the summer of 2021, and since then they have supported several acts such us Radkey, Bad Touch,
and Christian Death, and played in numerous UK festivals like Call Of The Wild, Wildfire Festival, Rockmantic, SavFest, HRH Sleaze, and Heaven & Hell Festival 23. The band's electrifying live shows have been praised by fans and critics alike, cementing their status as one of the most exciting acts on
the scene.
Their new album, Amor Fati, released on October 28, 2022 via Eclipse Records, explores the philosophy of determinism and the meaninglessness of our free will. The album was preceded by a double single for Halloween, featuring a new song called “A Ghost In Manchester” and a creepy cover of the 50’s hit, “Mr. Sandman,” originally performed by the Chordettes / Four Aces.
Shape of Water has been hailed as "potentially huge" by Classic Rock Magazine and "phenomenal" by the New Wave Of Classic Rock Facebook Group Admins. The band's music has been compared to Muse and Depeche Mode, with their unique sound and captivating live performances earning them a
legion of dedicated fans. BBC Introducing Lancashire raved about their latest single, saying "This is their new song.. Starchild. I love it, and I hope you do too." But what sets Shape of Water apart from their peers is their willingness to push the boundaries of what it means to be a rock band. Their music is infused with electronic elements and atmospheric soundscapes, creating a sonic landscape that is both expansive and intimate. Rox and Luca's songwriting is marked by a keen sense of social commentary and a willingness to tackle complex themes head-on.
In addition to their musical prowess, Rox and Luca are also accomplished artists in their own right, creating their own album art and visuals. Their DIY approach to their music and image has won them legions of fans who appreciate their commitment to authenticity and creativity.
With their unique blend of genres and electrifying performances, Shape of Water has proven themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. With their growing fan base and critical acclaim, it's clear that the band is on the path to becoming music icons. With their unbridled passion, creativity, and dedication to their craft, Rox Capriotti and Luca De Falco have set the bar high for themselves and their contemporaries. As they continue to tour and produce music that defies boundaries, one can only imagine what Shape of Water has in store for the future.
