About Daniel Meron
By inviting the listener into his personal world of experiences, Brooklyn based pianist and composer Daniel Meron awakens their own deepest desires and feelings with his music. A skillful improviser, Meron finds a way to feature his unique playing style in brilliant compositions that are both sophisticated and lyrical, rich with influences from jazz, his homeland of Israel, and other folk traditions. Meron’s multiple records have gained rave reviews from music critics and radio stations around the world.
With his new band “Traces”, Meron further explores that elusive and magical balance between the power of clarity and the excitement of spontaneity. Daniel has gathered some of New York’s most innovative and distinguished jazz musicians for this project: Drummer Mark Whitfield Jr. (Kenny Garrett, Terence Blanchard, Kurt Rosenwinkle), bassist Tamir Shmerling (Terri Lyne Carrington, Kevin Eubanks, Jerry Bergonzi), and flutist Itai Kriss (Pedrito Martinez, Avishai Cohen, Brian Charette). Together they perform Meron’s enchanting compositions, revealing how they can be stretched and transformed in the moment. Daniel’s music has clear influences from middle eastern, north african and latin music. Having it played by such heavy-weight jazz improvisers creates a special and captivating experience.
In the summer of 2023 the band will play a series of shows in the NY area and the midwest, culminating in an album recording of the project in late July.
Over the last decade, Meron has established himself as a prominent figure in the New York jazz scene, performing at venues such as Soho House, Mezzrow and the Museum of Natural History, playing the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, Costa Rica Jazz Festival, and touring Canada, Europe and Israel. Daniel graduated Berklee College of Music, where he was the winner of multiple scholarships and awards, and studied with masters such as Danilo Perez, Hal Crook and Joe Lovano. Along with his activities as a bandleader, Daniel continues to record and perform with multiple bands such as Electric Pool, Bunnicula, and the Arnan Raz Band.
“Meron’s songs are defined by a melodic, lyrical, style that is immediately engaging... his piano sound is crystal clear, precise and beautiful..” (All About Jazz)
