About this concert
Pianist Hermane from Spain presents his show “Somewhere between Chopin and Vangelis”, own compositions on the grand piano that start soulfully and over which he then layers sultry synth textures and vocal harmonies, before building up to swinging rhythms and a grand finale! During his concerts he involves the audience, getting them to clap and sing simple chants that he then craftly transforms into impressive opuses they can later find online. ONE MAN SHOW Hermane: “I decided to perform this show on my own because I didn't want to limit myself to strict chorus/verse formats, fixed rhythms and chord progressions... structures that you quickly get when you play with a band. I want to remain very agile, like a flock of starlings that can suddenly dart in a new direction. In order to achieve full, bombastic highs, I have taught myself to play multiple instruments at the same time, adding percussion with my foot and harmonizer with my voice to the piano and synth combination. COMPOSITIONS Despite all the synths and harmonizers, the core remains subtle, virtuoso piano pieces that Hermane wrote over the course of his life. “Composing is my passion: from a basic tune that I encounter while improvising, I can continue endlessly in “the flow” and often spend hours deliberating over a few strategic notes.” Hermane is mainly inspired by classical masters such as Chopin: “I always go beyond the standard four-chord schemes that most current music sticks to. For me, a song should really be a story with a beginning and a structure consisting of surprising variations that ultimately lead to a denouement.”

Hermane Biography

Before settling in Andalusia, Dutch composer & pianist Hermane lived over 20 years in Latin America, the US, Eastern Europe and several African countries, soaking up the traditional music of each country.

Hermane is a very meticulous composer who seeks to go beyond the typical “four repeated chords” that are so common in contemporary music. His goal: to create virtuoso pieces, endowed with a fragile beauty that moves the listener.

He draws inspiration from great classical masters such as Chopin and Beethoven but also contemporaries such as Vangelis and Zimmer. The result is a delicate and prodigious fusion of pop & soul songs, with gospel, flamenco, Latin and classical influences.

His concerts center around a grand piano, to which he adds a foot-drum and pulsating synthesizer & vocoder textures to culminate in a grand finale. He involves his audience with clapping and singing, taking simple chants and underpinning them with virtuose piano parts that the audience can later find back online.
