Danny Janklow and the Baked Potato presents First Thursdays Beginning Thursday Night, February 1, 2024 @ 8pm & 10pm PST. DANNY JANKLOW + ELEVATION BAND GENE COYE – DRUMS DENNIS HAMM – RHODES/KEYS FROM THUNDERCAT ANDREW RENFROE – GUITAR LUCA ALEMANNO – UPRIGHT/ELECTRIC BASS DANNY JANKLOW – SAXOPHONE/FLUTE Danny Janklow continues to be an exciting musical voice, and one of the most in-demand saxophonists, of his generation. He not only has a deep connection to the music and its legacy, he has something profound to contribute to its future. Danny performs with uncompromising courage, experimental innovation, and provocative imagination while lending the language of Jazz to the grooves of R&B, Funk, and Indie Soul. Danny’s music is searingly personal, and grounded in calls for equal rights, justice, and love. Recognized at age 20, he was the youngest 1st place winner of the North American Saxophone Alliance Competition. Janklow began regularly subbing at the Village Vanguard for his mentor Dick Oatts in Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. In 2012, Janklow was awarded 1st place at the Detroit Jazz Festival Saxophone Competition and headlined the festival. As an accomplished composer, he was selected to participate in the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program in 2013. Later that year, Danny was selected as a semi-finalist in the 2013 International Thelonious Monk Saxophone Competition. In early 2021, Danny celebrated a Grammy win for his integral performance on “Monk’estra plays John Beasley.” He has shared the stage with Stevie Wonder, Aloe Blacc, Burt Bacharach, & Herbie Hancock. Janklow has contributed iconic solos to Hip Hop recordings such as JID’s “Hereditary” and Earthgang’s “Cocktails” (Dreamville). Danny’s current projects include producing new music + multi-media, hosting The Creative Hero podcast, performing festivals & tours, and staying committed to his mission of propelling youth education. His available musical catalogue includes his albums “Elevation", "Worlds Collide", "Love Day Live", and the single "Rising Tide". Danny has been honored to perform as a bandleader and collaborator at prestigious venues such as Hollywood Bowl, North Sea Jazz Festival, Village Vanguard, The Apollo Theater, Ronnie Scotts London, Blue Note Tokyo, Blue Note NYC, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, & Disney Concert Hall. He regularly collaborates with top industry producers Terrace Martin and Larry Goldings. Danny has toured with sensational artists such as Gregory Porter, Eric Reed, Wallace Roney, Sheléa, and Harvey Mason Sr.

Danny Janklow Biography

Los Angeles born saxophonist, multi-Instrumentalist, educator, producer & composer Danny Janklow is quickly gaining international recognition for his soulful and innovative musical voice. His heart-felt, passionate, and highly energetic music has reached and inspired thousands of listeners from Japan to Holland to Mexico. His live performances, often described as “emotionally charged” and “vibrant celebrations,” leave his listeners always wanting more. Danny’s career began at a very young age, and by his early teens it was apparent he would become a sought after musician and educator. Danny received a full-tuition scholarship to Philadelphia’s Temple University Boyer College of Music and Dance and went on to win several awards including 1st place in the North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA). After returning to LA, Danny rapidly became one of the most in-demand saxophonists and bandleaders in town. He was nominated for 4 Grammys as a member of MONK’estra and has had the pleasure of sharing the stage and recording with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Kendrick Lamar, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, George Benson, Aloe Blacc, Jose James, Wynton & Branford Marsalis, Benny Golson, Eric Reed, John Beasley, Ben Williams, Jason Moran, Wallace Roney, Savion Glover, Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Bill Holman Big Band, and Jimmy Heath. Currently, Danny’s focus is on his solo career. After releasing his CD, Elevation in late 2017, Danny has been playing gigs both locally and outside Los Angeles, and he recently released a follow-up EP called Worlds Collide. There is a tour in the works so stay tuned.
