About this concert
British electronic band Blancmange are excited to announce their first ever ‘Best Of’ Tour, celebrating 45 years since they first formed in 1979.
Kicking off in Newcastle on May 16th, the 11-date tour will head to a string of major cities across the UK and include a show at London’s Islington Assembly Hall as well as a Scottish date in Glasgow.
The tour is to be a celebration of a band who are willing to change and adapt new styles within their electronic framework, which was evident with last year’s critically acclaimed album Private View.
Blancmange fuses together a delicate mix of synthesisers and surrealism, which over the years has created groundbreaking singles such as Feel Me, Living on the Ceiling, Blind Vision and Don't Tell Me.
In their post-punk early days, Blancmange made tape loops and experimental sounds with kitchen utensils, before developing into one of the definitive chart-topping British electronic pop acts. Since reforming in 2011, Neil Arthur has harnessed a duality of experimentation and seamless pop melodies to release a staggering 10 albums in the last decade.
As Neil Arthur highlights, this tour is also ‘two for the price of one.’ Special guests are The Remainder featuring Neil Arthur, Liam Hutton and Finlay Shakespeare, performing songs from their critically acclaimed 2023 album, Evensong.
“I have loved Blancmange for four decades."
John Grant
“Growing up in Chicago, British synth pop was hugely influential in the burgeoning house music scene. Blancmange was a big part of that and to remix one of their songs is a true honour.”
Honey Dijon who recently remixed ‘Blind Vision’
"Listening to Blancmange obsessively. Probably the most under-rated electronic act of all time."

Superb. Neil and entertainment are a well matched pair. He and Finley and Liam were both the main act and support under two different names with subtley different styles of synth music. Kind enough to come out and sign at the end and chat. Trying to see if I can catch him again on his current tour. Highly recommended.

Blancmange Biography
Vocalist-writer Neil Arthur and instrumentalist Stephen Luscombe (Blancmange, as they christened themselves), signed with London Records in February 1982 and embarked on one of the great Imperial Phases of synth pop. They released 10 charting hits of the 80s, secretly nourished by Can and Captain Beefheart.
By 1985 however, Neil and Stephen found themselves drained of inspiration and often recording separately. At a concert for Greenpeace at the Royal Albert Hall in April 1986, Neil cast his eyes out to a happy cheering crowd and realised “I don’t want to do this anymore.”
He and Stephen remained in contact, often finding themselves together in friends’ studios, joking that they should do more stuff together one day. 25 years later they realised they weren’t really joking about it. The resultant album, 2011’s ‘Blanc Burn’ pulsed with all the energy and strange beauty of early Blancmange, refreshed by new technology.
Sadly Stephen left shortly after ‘Blanc Burn’ due to ill-health, but reconnecting with the spirit of Blancmange unlocked an astonishingly prolific side to Neil Arthur. Alongside seven more Blancmange albums and the instrumental series ‘Nil By Mouth’ he works with the electronic musician Benge as Fader, and as Near Future with the Brighton-based musician, Jez Bernholz. “I’m a really lucky man,” he says. “I’ve learned how to let go and let things be. I used to be afraid to fail. Now I’m not afraid to have a go.”
