About this concert
Daníel Bjarnason conducts the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in a programme celebrating the the late Jóhann Jóhannsson – the Golden Globe winner and two-time Oscar nominee who passed away unexpectedly at the height of his fame in 2018. The programme culminates in the symphony-like A Prayer to the Dynamo, commissioned by the Winnipeg New Music Festival and drawing on the writings of historian Henry Adams in response to a visit to the Hall of Electrical Machines at the 1900 Paris Exposition. Two other works by Jóhannsson round out the concert – Fanfare from the opening of Honourable Presidents, and the poignant song Odi et Amo from the play Englabörn – alongside Philip Glass's David Bowie and Brian Eno-inspired Symphony No. 1.
