Seventeen hours driving through the Ural Mountains, karaoke nights in Tokyo, blown amps in Reading and still getting airplay on MTV: the story of Second Function reads like a road movie caught somewhere between chaos and determination.


What drives the Swiss alternative rock band is more than just music: it’s a blend of friendship, relentless determination, and the belief that consensus is sometimes simply a matter of taste. That’s exactly where their sound comes from powerful, road-tested on stage, and always carrying a wink toward the bizarre. Or, put differently: apocalypse turned into a singalong anthem.


A perfect example is their latest single, “Urban Tribe,” recorded together with producer Luk Zimmermann (among others known for working with Lunik and Die Herbstzeitlosen).

But the band’s earlier releases tell their own stories as well: from the first recordings in Switzerland (Time Stops Running, 2008), to productions in the UK (Dry, Crisp & Bittersweet, 2011) and Germany (Feed Yourself, 2015; Individuals, 2018), all the way to new tracks released in 2023, 2024 and 2026.

Live, the band has long since built a strong reputation: appearances at Greenfield Festival 2017, tours with Life of Agony, and support shows for acts such as Skindred, Biffy Clyro, Dog Eat Dog, and Twin Atlantic speak for themselves.


In the studio, Second Function has collaborated with renowned producers including John Mitchell (among others known for working with Steven Wilson, Enter Shikari, and Architects), Flo Nowak (Jennifer Rostock, Itchy, Blackout Problems), and Luk Zimmermann.
