Biografia de MoYah
MoYah is a Mozambican born Afro-fusion artist, award winning Interfaith
creative producer, workshop facilitator &public speaker.
Born amidst a 16 year war in Mozambique, south east Africa, MoYah was
forced to flee his country as a political refugee & move to Lisbon at a
young age.
Inspired by his parents broad musical taste & the impact of Rap music
whilst living in Portugal, he quickly learned that music could be used not
only for entertainment but also as a powerful tool for self exploration &
social expression eventually leading him to creating music from the
perspective of a child of the African Diaspora.
Noted for his electrifying performances MoYah uses his own experience of
war and displacement to encourage deeper community cohesion & empathy whilst celebrating the spirit of perseverance, strength, faith and resistance
His sound is a perfect amalgamation of positive uplifting hard hitting rap
lyrics over High energy AfroFusion, Trap and alternative up-tempo sounds.
MoYah’s music has been featured on BBC one, RTP & RTP Africa.
In 2023 he was picked by Portuguese National television channel RTP as a
contestant for Festival da Canção, a national festival produced and
broadcasted by Rádio e Televisão de Portugal to choose the Portuguese
entry for the Eurovision Song Contest.
MoYah is also an award winning interfaith arts programmer who often
curates projects for refugees and asylum seekers as well as a variety of
social action and artistic events to disintegrate stereotypes & encourage
more community cohesion between different faiths.
Recently he received the 21 for 21 award, recognising him as one of the
most inspiring faith based leaders who is increasing dialogue and breaking
down barriers in the 21 st century.
In 2021 He was made the Hip Hop Ambassador of May Project Gardens, an
award-winning, London-based grassroots organisation that empowers
marginalised groups to address poverty, disempowerment and access to
resources and influence.
