8.30pm Shaene Starting out as a bedroom recording project over lockdown, shaene has since evolved into a full band. Last year she offered her self-produced and self-recorded debut album - ?time lost / time regained?, garnering acclaim from DIY, So Young, and BBC Introducing. Combining glittering keys, gritty guitars, and devastating emotional lyricism shaene projects a dynamic gentleness that sets her at a pioneering edge, embodying the rich history of her emo/shoegaze predecessors. Tackling issues of mental health, familial alienation and the trans experience, time lost / time regained finally settles on acceptance, recovery, and the choice to end the cycle. Taking inspiration from experimental guitar music from the last two decades and wading with that into the water left disturbed by the likes of Sparklehorse and Big Thief, Green Gardens show a more kind, sympathetic face of indie music. Green Gardens' debut album 'This Is Not Your Fault' (released via Come Play With Me records in partnership with EMI North) was released to a positive critical reaction, selling out multiple shows on their corresponding UK tour as well as strong radio coverage from BBC 6Music. Notable playlisting for the record includes Spotify's Fresh Finds, Fresh Finds Folk, We are Leeds, The Neu Playlist (DIY), Hot New Bands and Melomania, as well as Apple Music's New in Alternative and New in Rock. Recorded in Greenmount Studios with Leeds heavyweights Jamie Lockhart (Mi Mye, The Cribs) and Rob Slater (Yard Act, Carpet, Crake) the band tracked much of the album live, giving it the carnality and immediacy that was required to carry you through the near-linear path through loss and guilt. The Establishment is located close to Wakefield Westgate train station. The gig will finish at 10pm, giving you plenty of time to get the last train. The show will be standing, but if you would like to sit please email bodyswakefield at gmail dot com Establishment disabled access: Entrance/ exit: 1 step - no ramp. Toilets: no disabled toilets, toilets upstairs. Viewing: all one level - seating available. We will make sure everyone can see if view is obstructed. About Bodys Bodys is a gig promoter in Wakefield, run by Emily since the start of 2019. We put on shows on the first Thursday of the month in the music hall at The Establishment, as well as other one-offs at other venues around town.
