CHROMA Biography

Pontypridd, Wales bi-lingual alt-rock trio CHROMA are pleased to return with their new single ‘Woman To Woman’ set for release on 24th May 2023 via new label home Alcopop! Records.

Riding high on a run of packed shows at SXSW Festival and FOCUS Wales, the band announced their signing to Alcopop! Records earlier this year with news of a forthcoming debut album later in 2023, further details TBA.

A rallying cry of solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community, commenting on the track vocalist Katie Hall says: “'Woman to Woman' is a song about allyship with the Trans and Queer communities. With the rise of TERF culture, it’s more important than ever to stand up for people from minority genders. The song is about calling out women who call themselves ‘feminists’ who actively oppress others.”

The new track follows on from lead single ‘Don’t Mind Me’ which was released in March 2023, a groove-driven but searingly heavy tune that served as vocalist Katie Hall’s battle cry against a mental health crisis, picking up support from Huw Stephens at BBC 6music and BBC Wales, Alyx Holcombe at BBC R1, Amazing Radio, Total Rock and many more, plus a groundswell of grassroots tastemaker support from God Is In The TV, Noizze, Stereoboard, Distorted Sound, Sweeping The Nation and more.

The material on their formidable soon-to-be-revealed debut variously reflects on the band’s collective experience growing up in the South Wales Valleys, and explores the myriad lived experiences of young women. Exploring infighting within the feminist movement, the oppression of trans rights in the UK, violence against women, and other weighty but hugely important topics, the trio ultimately invite the listener to a place of safety and empowerment with their inclusive music.
