Sobre So Beast

So Beast
So Beast are Katarina Poklepovic and Michele Quadri, both producers, beatmakers, musicians and composers with a mixed background, based in the countryside outside Bologna.
For many years, So Beast’s path has been primarily focused on free improvisation, experimentation, multimedia art and radio art. They have curated several radio-art podcasts (World Wide Breast for Radio Tsunami in Chile, Lungs Dance for Galleriapiu, and OOXXYY for the Narkissos Gallery in Bologna).
They spent years touring the deepest layers of the European and Balkan underground scenes. The spark in their musical dialogue was lit in 2015, when—within the circuit of Bologna’s social centre XM24—the duo began experimenting with piano and a drum machine, following their own aesthetic and sonic flow.
Their stylistic identity is made of psychedelic sounds, pop, punk, noise-avantgarde, rap and contemporary world music—yet it’s never easy to pin down within a defined category. Experimentation and revolution are the keywords of their sound, which becomes a truly existential approach.
In December 2016 they released their debut album Kira on the independent Californian label Time Released Sound.
In 2019 came Fit Unformal, released through Bologna’s Oh Dear Records and Germany’s U-Bac.
The following year they released the EP Superblack on UR-sound, and in 2021 they put out the singles “Punch” and “Multyplayer” (NEEDN’T).
Over the past year they performed at Dr Martens Fest, Beaches Brew, and Jazzwerkstatt in Switzerland, and they launched an ongoing residency on Radio Raheem with their monthly show Abstract Boombox.
In this way, So Beast explore new artistic territories—not only by embracing different languages and genres, but also by engaging with art forms beyond music. They enter into dialogue with fashion, collaborating with Marco Rambaldi on synchronisations for his runway shows during Milan Fashion Week in 2020/21/22.
In 2023 they returned with a new body of work, introduced by “Screenlight”, the first extract from their upcoming album BRILLA, due out on March 31.
So Beast break the boundaries of art, genre and language. They experiment, blend, merge and converse without ever setting limits—always pursuing the highest level of quality and productions with a strong international imprint.
