What a night. What a night! I rarely go to huge stadium concerts, because often the sound is horrible, the sightlines worse, and the ticket prices almost atmospheric they're so high.
But some artists are just worth it. Sarah McLachlan was transcendent last night. I'd read reviews of recent concerts that said that her voice is stronger than ever, but given her previous throat issues, I thought that was hyperbole. I was wrong.
It's hard to believe that Fumbling Toward Ecstasy was released 32 years exactly before last night's concert. I don't know what alchemy she did to her throat, but she sang those 32 year old songs with more power, more depth, and more subtle layers than I'd ever heard her sing before. Incredible.
She had an fantastic backing band, including Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet from the band Whitehorse. And a special surprise guest - Paula Cole, who was one of the first artists Sarah asked to join Lilith Fair all those years ago (if you haven't watched the new documentary on Lilith Fair, I recommend it highly!)
Paula Cole was in Winnipeg at a separate concert with Sophie B Hawkins, a concert I would have happily gone to had it not been on the same night as the Sarah McLachlan concert. I figured I'd missed my chance to see Paula Cole live in concert. So it was a huge and very welcome moment to see her on stage. ❤️
Tiny Habits was the opening act, and were terrific. Great harmonies, warm humour, and Sarah McLachlan pulled them back on stage to sing her final encore, which I loved (nice echos of Lilith Fair there too).
Our time on this earth is short. When we have the opportunity to make great memories, we should. I did. 😊

Wonderful show. She covered all the hits, threw in a couple of bonus rarities, and then played Fumbling Towards Ecstasy from cover to cover. What more could you ask for??? And her voice is as strong and beautiful as ever.

Sobre Sarah McLachlan
Sarah McLachlan (born Sarah Ann McLachlan January 28, 1968 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) is a Grammy-winning musician, singer and songwriter.
She is known for the emotional sound of her ballads. Some of her most popular songs include "Angel", "Building a Mystery", "Adia", "Possession", "Fallen", "I Will Remember You", and "World on Fire". Her best-selling album to date is Surfacing, for which she won two Grammy Awards and four Juno Awards.
Her first album Touch was released in September 28, 1988, recorded in 1987-1988, Vancouver, Canada. Album received both critical and commercial success and included the hit song Vox. During this period she also contributed to an album by Moev, and embarked on her first national concert tour as an opening act for The Grapes of Wrath.
Her second album Solace (1991) was a real breakthrough in Canada, spawning the hit singles The Path of Thorns (Terms) and Into the Fire and being certified double platinum for sales of 200,000 copies in Canada.
In 1994 her third album Fumbling Towards Ecstasy quietly became Sarah's international breakthrough, scaling the charts in a number of countries. In the United States, the album was a steady seller that stayed in the middle ranges of the pop charts for almost two years.
Sarah's fourth album Surfacing was released in 1997, which brought her international success, being sold over 11 million copies worldwide. Still in the spotlight from the album, Sarah launched the highly popular Lilith Fair tour, which helped launch the careers of several well-known female artists.
Her next record Afterglow came out in 2003, which contained the singles Fallen, Stupid, and World on Fire. It was her first album of new material in six years. Sarah took a few years furlough to start a family with her husband and drummer, Ashwin Sood.
Holiday album Wintersong came out in October 2006. The album consists eleven new recordings of well known christmas songs, and seasonal favorites interpreted by Sarah. The title track Wintersong is an original work of Sarah.
