Sobre The Merindas
The Merindas are the collective force of Ballardong Whadjuk and Nyoongar woman Kristel Kickett (from Tammin, WA) and Candice Lorrae of Jawoyn and Thursday Island heritage (born in Darwin, NT).
Now based in Melbourne, these soul sisters are set to trail-blaze their innovative style of Indigenous music. They describe their unique sound as “electronic pop with a dance-hall feel, alongside hip hop and R&B influences.”
With three singles under their belt (We Sing Until Sunrise, Before Daylight and their latest release ‘I Feel It’), their hotly anticipated debut album We Sing Until Sunrise (“Ngangk Ngoorndiny Ngala Warangka - strongly reflects that we are forever singing, forever dancing and forever celebrating our culture”). This is the essence of who The Merindas are and the ethos they bring to each of their performances.
The Merindas formed in 2012 singing Motown hits for the premier of The Sapphires Movie. What was supposed to be a one off show became a full-time career performing around 400 shows in the last eight years. Garnering rave reviews on the live circuit, playing festivals and major corporate events across Australia, The Merindas present a world-class, fresh and energetic show.
They have supported some of Australia’s biggest stars including International Grammy Award winning artist Brandy and UK artist Craig David. Keeping culture alive and strong through language and song, The Merindas long awaited album was released in June 2020.
During their performance, audiences can expect choreographed dance moves, soaring vocals and visual projections that weave into the fabric of their music and stories.
