Makuakai (Makua) Rothman was born on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. He began surfing at the unusually early age of two years, and his surfing of a 66-foot wave (the largest wave known to be surfed anywhere in the world that winter) earned him the respected award and solidified his place as a serious competitor in the sport, at just 18 years old. Makua went on to win the O’Neill World Cup at Sunset and was recently named the “No. 1 Surfer in the World” by the World Surf League (WSL), after winning the 2014 Big Wave Tour, and taking the title by more than 7,000 points. The surfing champion is also an accomplished musician and is endorsed by Monster Energy®, Oakley®, and RVCA.
