As a musician, Miika has had the opportunity to perform in hundreds of live events in classical music circles, as well as modern and contemporary music circles of all kinds all across the U.S. and in Europe with hundreds of different artists. Above Stars was started by singer/songwriter/musician/producer Miika Weimann in 2013, since then he has released an EP, several singles and many remixes and covers. In early 2014 a Kickstarter was launched and a new EP was crowdfunded by support from fans, family and friends. The new EP entitled; If The Sun Burned Out was produced and mixed by double Gold certified producer Kevin Gates (The Ready Set, Romance On A Rocketship, Cady Groves, Never Shout Never) and released on August 2, 2014. Above Stars has played shows in Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia, so far. In a year and a half Above Stars has amassed a twitter following of over 25,000 people, several thousand followers on facebook, Instagram and Youtube, along with over 65,000 YouTube views. Miika Weimann has been playing music nearly his whole life. He was raised in a house full of music with his father being a professional violinist and conductor. He grew up around primarily classical and contemporary Christian worship music. He started playing violin at the age of 6 and at the age of 7 he decided he wanted to play the cello.He’s been playing the cello ever since, and continues to play it and incorporate it into his music. At the age of 8 he became enamored with percussion instruments, especially the drums. He began to help his dad with the worship at the church where he was the music minister, playing percussion instruments. Around this same time, he got his first radio and became intrigued by all the different kinds of music he had never really heard such as pop, rock, rap, hip hop and everything else you can possibly imagine. In 2007, Miika started his own band playing drums and cello, until the summer of 2012. After that endeavor ended, he knew he couldn’t quit music. He knows that making music is what he was put on this planet to do. He began experimenting with different sounds and genres to play for a solo project, and finally settled on pop. Many sounds, experiences, and people he has met have influenced what is now known as Above Stars. He is excited to see what happens in the rest of this journey. Above Stars is the amalgamation of Miika’s imagination and everything he has experienced musically so far, and it will continue to form into something greater and even more crazy!
