Sobre Māmā Mihirangi & the Māreikura
Māmā Mihirangi & the Māreikura
ALL FEMALE MĀORI SOULFUL WORLD ROOTS, DANCE, BEATS & BASS LOOPS
“New Zealand’s Māmā Mihirangi & the Māreikura took the stage by storm with a powerful show of stunning contemporary Māori music, dance, instruments, language, stories and costumes. The queen of live loops is back in force after a break from touring and this new show is her best yet”. Marc Fournier Songlines Magazine 2019
A powerfully fierce all-female Māori world-roots music and dance production lead by internationally renowned artist/activist and “Queen of Loops” (Beat Mag), Māmā Mihirangi who weaves ancient chants with intricate harmonies, traditional & contemporary instruments, beats & deep bass. The Māreikura are her traditional female dancers who present the virtues of feminine power and inspiring cultural identity with the Māori Women’s haka, traditional weaponry and martial arts combined into a contemporary cultural performance that is informative, inclusive and truly inspiring.
With grace, passion, warmth and humour, Mihirangi’s lyrics poetically celebrate the values, lore and customs of her lineage and culture, uplifting her audience with her infectious laughter and fearless authenticity. On the Executive Committee of the Global Alliance of Mother Nature's Guardians, Mihirangi, along with members of the AMNG, has been addressing the World Governments, the UN and the International community as Ambassador’s for the Declaration of the Rights of Mother Earth, encouraging indigenous values into legislation.
Inspiring audiences across the globe, and after a highly successful first tour in Canada in 2018 Mihirangi has performed for and with fellow artist activists Arrested Development, Lee Scratch Perry, John Butler, Blue King Brown, Michael Franti, Public Enemy, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and The Dixie Chicks.
“I was personally overcome by an incomprehensible powerful force emanating from these three Māori women… Their mesmerising fractal flow and otherworldly theatrics invoked a rapturous level of being that only the purest music is able to conjure." Roots Music Canada 2019
“I left feeling more womanly and confident in response to their expression of ancient power” Americana Highways 2019
“A female trio whose show was fierce and thrilling… a sonic cyclone of song and dance” The Transcript Oklahoma 2019
