Sobre Aaron Watson

Aaron Watson
Aaron Watson
With 20 studio albums under his belt, laden with buckles earned the hard way, Aaron Watson rides into uncharted territory with the release of Horse Named Texas, a career-defining 26-song collection whose very title nods to the faithful “horse” of a career that has carried him across decades of hard-won success.

The road to this record was paved with relentless self-determination and resilience. Watson has reached the Top 10 of Billboard’s Country Albums chart five times, highlighted by The Underdog, which debuted at No. 1 and became the first independent album ever to top that chart. Achievements like these, earned without a major label, cement his reputation as one of country music’s most steadfast and self-made artists. Horse Named Texas stands as his most ambitious foray yet, blending classic country tradition with contemporary edge.

At the album’s heart is the title track, “Horse Named Texas,” a self-portrait disguised as a cowboy tale. Watson likens his journey to an honest, faithful horse—steady, spirited, and relentless—one that has carried him from dusty honky-tonks to the front lines of modern country, transforming the Honky Tonk-Kid into a trailblazer in country music.

Across twenty-six songs, each co-written by Watson, he delivers music that speaks to longtime fans while capturing the attention of a new generation of listeners. In the sentimental song “Old Houses,” he tips his hat to the foundation that built him—faith, family, and friends, while tracks such as “Same Here” and “Good Old Days” take audiences down familiar backroads. The full-
throttle track, “Pontiac (So Tell Me Momma),” paints the picture of a son, who’s the spitting image of his father, seeking advice from his mom on how to turn his relationship around the way his dad did. Among the album’s most poignant pieces is “Gone Fishin,” which reimagines loved ones not as gone forever, but simply casting lines in a better place.

The inspiring single released on Father’s Day weekend, “Just Like You,” chronicles Watson’s son Jake as he follows in his father’s footsteps, joining Watson on tour in an apprenticeship Watson affectionately calls, “Honky-Tonk University” —bridging together generations of country music fans.

Waston continues to bridge those generations with his viral, sometimes tongue-in-cheek,
“Tailgate Talks” —garnering the attention of media outlets such as American Songwriter, Whiskey Riff, Taste of Country and country music fans alike with his wise, witty and unfiltered popcorn-worthy commentary from the bed of his pickup. “A guy like Aaron Watson is a legend in country music, somebody who’s had success in not only Texas country, but in the mainstream too and has had incredible longevity in his career making authentic country music,” said Whiskey Riff of Watson’s trending “Tailgate Talks.”

Two decades in, Aaron Watson remains a rare and authentic artist who honors the roots of country music while pushing it into fresh, new horizons. Horse Named Texas isn’t just another notch on his belt; it’s the ride of a lifetime from a cowboy who’s never stopped forging new frontiers —now with the next generation riding alongside.
