Cala is a Trad band from Inverness, Scotland. Their style fuses elements of Scottish traditional/folk with contemporary music of all kinds, inspired by the vibrant Scottish Trad scene. They began their studio career in 2020 with their debut single ‘Causeway’ and started to gain momentum with gigs, playing Highland festivals such as Under Canvas, The Gathering, and Belladrum. In the summer of 2022, Cala embarked to the Isle of Lewis to record their debut album ‘From the River’ with Keith Morrison of Wee Studio. It was released in March of 2023, and they celebrated with their first self-promoted show; a sold-out album release party in their hometown of Inverness. Cala continues to pursue new festival crowds and return to old favourites. Their music has taken them all over Scotland, and more recently as far as France with Festival Interceltique du Lorient.

In late 2023, they recorded and released their latest single ‘Two-stroke Wheelbarrow’ with Scott Wood of Oak Ridge Studios. The track offers a glimpse into the much bolder and more experimental style they’ve been developing since the release of their debut album. In 2024, they’ll return to Belladrum and The Gathering. They’ll also make their first appearance at Glasgow’s new festival The Reeling, with more exciting announcements lined up. The band continues to push themselves creatively and their passion for writing and performing grows ever stronger. Watch this space.
