Sobre Arrows of Love
“One of the most extreme and extremely enjoyable albums of the year.”
- Louder Than War
“Brilliant, ferocious”
- The Independent
“The five-piece, centered around Teranchi and bassist/vocalist Nuha Ruby Ra, have been spitting out caustic and frenetic missives for the past half-decade, building a reputation as a manic live act with a sardonic twist.”
- Noisey
“Discordant, metallic guitars crash into each other, making an uneasy yet brilliant racket.”
- DIY Magazine
“The melodies create an atmosphere on this record which is unparalleled”
- Thinking Lyrically
In August, East London art-rockers Arrows Of Love will release their eagerly anticipated second album, ‘PRODUCT’, a ten track masterpiece and an epic amalgamation of blisteringly heavy guitars and earnest, heartfelt lyrics.
Here, the collective weave a world which is in equal parts aggressively powerful and vulnerable, where poetry meets pure punk attitude. The LP was produced by Mikko Gordon (Thom Yorke, Gaz Combes), in the studio he built himself at Goldsmiths University, and mastered by Bob Weston of Shellac. Lead track ‘Signal’ was also given a mix by celebrated engineer Margo Broom (Fat White Family).
As with their acclaimed 2014 debut, ‘Everything’s Fucked’, the album is a striking and beautiful critique on modern life, politics, philosophy and the fight against apathy. ‘PRODUCT’ is a call to arms, even more so than previous outputs, one which has been forged over the years and created by circumstance.
During the last few months Arrows of Love stepped away from their album recording process to fight a campaign against the ex-Olympic Authority LLDC. With their own warehouse community threatened with demolition as London continues to lose parts of its soul to corporate profiteers, Vittoria Wharf hit local and worldwide news when residents stood up to fight closure. The band and a slew of local artists spearheaded the defence of what i-D called “a thriving centre for cultural and artistic output” during the #savevittoriawharf campaign. Not only that but the band have continued the campaign, forming Save Hackney Wick and tackling wider issues across the city.
The 5-piece led by co-writers Nima and Nuha recently found themselves backed by the UK's highly competitive PRS Foundation Momentum Music Fund. After accepting an invite from CMJ Music Marathon the band confirmed a string of US dates, followed by a headline London show with Parallel Lines before the album recording began.
Arrows Of Love are, above all, a live phenomenon. Originally aligned with the early East London wave of bohemian rock bands, it was their fiercely independent and creative drive that has taken them across the globe, to the likes of SXSW and End of the Road, to sharing stages with the likes of The Fall, Buzzcocks, British Sea Power, 80’s Matchbox B-Line Disaster, The Wytches and many more. It’s on stage where London's own Arrows truly hit home.
Drawing comparisons to the discordant, emotive musicianship of Sonic Youth to the raw power of McClusky, this second LP sees a band fully diversified, and truly unique.
