Originally from Glasgow, Carlos Nilmmns emerged from the city’s influential late-1990s underground music scene. A lifelong record collector from the age of 13, he released his first record in 1999 and developed his craft through classical training, performing in orchestras and working across funk, indie and electronic music before studying audio engineering.

Early guidance from Vince Watson, alongside support from Glasgow DJs Domenic Cappello and Ian Elgey, helped shape his exploration of Detroit and Chicago house. After working at Seventh Sign Recordings and forming Solab with Graham Wilson, McMillan relocated to France, where he further developed a sound rooted in deep house, techno and jazz, defined by musicality, groove and compositional depth.

Under the Carlos Nilmmns name, he has released on internationally respected labels including Cod3 QR, Planet E Communications, TRAX Records, Cocoon Recordings, KMS Records, Ornaments Music, Circus Company, Dopewax, International Deejay Gigolos and Skylax. His work has brought him into collaboration with and alongside artists including Laurent Garnier, Carl Craig, Kenny Dope, Kevin Saunderson, DJ Rolando, Deetron, Niko Marks and Davina Bussey.

His catalogue continues to move between deep house and techno, encompassing projects such as Latin Quarter, Southside with Keter Darker and Legacy, a deep house and jazz project featuring the late Karl The Voice, Keter Darker and Genoveva. Other recent work includes a contribution to the TRAX 40 compilation, a remix of DJ Rolando’s “Junie” alongside Cinthie and Cassy, and releases on techno-focused labels including Distangled and Frame Of Mind. His music has also extended beyond the dancefloor, with work featured in the forthcoming video game The Estate.

Performing both DJ and live sets, Carlos Nilmmns has appeared at clubs, festivals and radio events across Europe and internationally, including Kater Holzig, Detroit Love, Sub Club, Sektor 909, Muziekgieterij, Cactus9 Jerusalem, Piknic Électronik and Radio Nova. Drawing from the traditions of Detroit and Chicago while incorporating elements of techno and jazz, his work reflects a deep commitment to musicality, rhythm and Soul.
