Westside Cowboy

Wow! Westside Cowboy! If there is show near you, just go! They are like a breath of fresh air and the Whelan’s crowd, in full voice, was bouncing! Such an uplifting performance on the start of what will be an illustrious career for this truly brilliant band! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Their songs are so wonderful, but live they put such incredible energy, passion and charisma into them that it takes them to a whole new level. It felt like a once in a lifetime event. Strange Taxidermy is my favourite song and Aoife sang this so powerfully on the night it was an amazing experience. At the signing after they were all so charming, kind, friendly, fun and down to earth!

Incredible band

By now, for me, it's difficult to imagine awarding a Westside Cowboy show anything less than 5 stars. Always excellent when I've seen them, the homecoming show at Manchester's Gorilla was no exception, even with the ticket price being around a fiver more than the rest of the tour dates. I think one of the things that especially endears me to Westside Cowboy (exceptional songwriting and musicianship aside) is the band's awareness of the fans through their interactions. So it was that we were treated to a "we never do this" three song encore following the full, main set. It's a great and growing setlist now, with the venue sizes also getting larger. The future of Westside Cowboy feels exciting and it's always a lot of fun to be a small part of it.

Banging

In my experience, when Westside Cowboy take to the stage they always give it their all to put on an incredible show. The gig at Brudenell Social Club was no exception to this; the overall gig experience only being enhanced by this great venue and support provided by the band Holly Head. After the set opener, a cover of Midnight Cowboy by Santo & Johnny, has brought a reverential hush to proceedings, Paddy, several members of the crowd and me scream "Westside Cowboy" and we're off into I've Never Met Anyone.... accompanied by lots of singing along. As we reach the second chorus many seem to favour going with Aoife's vocal whilst a few of us pause to pick up Reuben's, it feels like a big moment in a big song to lift the audience to the next level. Alright Alight Alright follows, with Jimmy duly delivering his main vocal on this song, to continue a set filled with the songs from both EPs released to date. A couple of yet to be recorded fan favourites and two new songs that both instantly feel at home are also in the show tonight. The band gather together, as is customary, to perform In The Morning to close out the night and the room feels excited, satisfied and happy.

What a band! No one to touch them at the moment. Brilliant on record but even more fantastic live. A special, special group.
