Sobre Low Island
‘If you were to put together Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, Caribou and Glass Animals…you would create a singularity…it would just lay waste and it would be over and we’d all just be particles in the sand…but out of those dusty particles of oblivion we have this incredible band called Low Island’ Zane Lowe
In April 2021, Oxford four-piece Low Island released their debut album, If You Could Have It All Again, to critical acclaim, reaching #2 in the iTunes UK Album Chart, #17 in the Official UK Album Sales Chart, #13 in the Official UK Album Vinyl Chart and #5 in the Official UK Independent Chart, with songs included on FIFA’s 2021 soundtrack.
It was a debut that took stock of a 20s filled with false starts, heartbreak and cyclical conflict, carving a path towards a better decade to come. Self-managed, and released on their own record label, Emotional Interference, Low Island’s complete independence is rare in the industry, writing and producing their own music, directing their own videos, handling their own releases and being the sole determiners of their own artistic direction.
It’s an independence that is paying off. The release of their album last year resulted in a sell-out tour of the UK, bringing accolades from The Line of Best Fit, Rolling Stone and Paste, play-listing from radio stations such as Double J, Deutschlandfunk Nova and NDR 2, and further support from BBC Radio1, 6music, KCRW and Apple Music’s Zane Lowe who described the band’s ‘unbelievable…soulful, intellectual creativity.’
The album received major editorial support from all DSPs: Amazon Music included tracks from the album in their ‘Best Songs of 2020’ and ‘Best Songs of 2021’ lists, making the band cover stars of Fresh Indie. Spotify included all 5 singles on New Music Friday UK, featuring the band as cover stars of Peach; Apple Music included them on Breaking Rock and Breaking Alternative, while both Bandsintown and Amazon Music invited them to perform live-streams during the pandemic.
The band are set to take this exciting momentum to their first EU headline tour in the autumn and biggest London show to date at Village Underground in April 2022, releasing their fifth EP in the first half of the year. Paving the way for independent artists with their cathartic anthems about love, loss and life, Low Island follow in the lineage of Oxford bands Radiohead, Glass Animals and Foals: tenacious, free-spirited, and with a musical horizon of boundless possibility.
