Sobre Sam Himself
"Switzerland's King of Tears!" - Victoria Turrian, Radio Télévision Suisse
"His deep, rich vocals remind us of the beauty that exists even during the darkest times." - The Wild Honeypie
New York's leading Fondue Western™️ baritone & Switzerland's "King of Tears" Sam Himself shares Never Let Me Go, his latest collaboration with producer Daniel Schlett (Iggy Pop, The War On Drugs) and mastering engineer Greg Calbi (Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie).
The single kicks off a new era for Sam Himself, aka Swiss-born, Brooklyn-based songwriter and performer Sam Koechlin. Emerging from the bleak solitude of the pandemic years, the two-time Swiss Music Award nominee risks another shot at hope, inspired by new beginnings and the opportunity to finally share the studio with other musicians again - namely drummer Chris Egan (Blood Orange; !!!) and bass player Josh Werner (Ghostface Killah; Lee "Scratch" Perry).
Two years ago, the onset of the pandemic caught the artist in limbo, stuck on a canceled European tour and unable to return to New York City, his chosen home of the past decade. In 2021, still stranded, Sam Himself nonetheless released his debut album, Power Ballads, a largely home-recorded yet “well-crafted set of atmospheric post-punk” (KEXP), to international acclaim.
His EP Slow Drugs, featuring vocalists Denitia and TEEN, as well as drummer Parker Kindred (Jeff Buckley; Elliott Smith) under the direction of Sam Himself's 'Second Beatle' Daniel Schlett, had previously earned the National Broadcasting Network's prestigious 'Best Talent Award' in 2020.
After closing out a busy 2022 with his second collaboration with the Basel Symphony Orchestra, Sam released his sophomore LP Never Let Me Go (Sony Music Entertainment) in January 2023. In support of his new album, Sam Himself and his band are on tour throughout the year, with stops in New York, Berlin, Zurich and an official showcase at the Reeperbahn Festival & Conference in September 2023 in Hamburg,
Sam Himself has been featured by HBO MAX, KCRW, KEXP, SPIN Magazine, Consequence of Sound, Under The Radar, American Songwriter, The Philadelphia Globe, FLUX.FM (GE), radioeins (GE), DIFFUS Magazin (GE), FIP Radio (FR), Les oreilles curieuses (FR), Swiss National Radiotelevision SRF (CH), Danger Mouse Jukebox, 20 Minuten, BZ - Basellandschaftliche Zeitung, and many more.
