BirdBelly is the new moniker of Alberta-born Métis singer-songwriter Cynthia Hamar — a name that signals a creative shift into deeper, more cinematic territory.
Praised as “menacing, powerful, and contemplative” (Music Arena Gh, 2022), her music blends raw emotion with richly textured folk-Americana. Hamar has released four studio albums, including Joint & Marrow (Neon Moon Records), which charted on earshot!’s National Top 50 and earned her a 2024 Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for Indigenous Songwriter of the Year.

Her upcoming album The Wind The Wood, set for release in Fall 2025, introduces BirdBelly: a project rooted in authenticity, resilience, and the wild grace of the prairie landscape.
