Joan was as outstanding as ever. Her between songs comments were fabulous too..."Thank you for supporting live music...welcome to my matinee show" were especially piquant.
The songs, the voice and the performance were all great.
Joan also said that she loved the venue, citing it as her favourite, and l'm a big fan of it too.
The sound quality was amazing, so was Joan and that version of Christobel was mint.
Lovely evening thank you Joan. You are such a great musician
Fantastic night !! Great band, second time I have been to see them. great foot stomping music, and soulful ballads. Brilliant musicians with crowd participation. 😜 We actually saw them the following night on march 14 at the Corn exchange in Exeter which is a great venue, easy access and nice and airy with comfy seats. Wonderful night 😁😁
Mesmerising. A true artist.
Julia and the band were brilliant, playing a good mix of songs familiar and new. It was my first time seeing her live but hopefully it won’t be the last. I loved it
Fantastic to see and hear Mary play both a solo opener and full band set covering earlier material and the debute full album. Great musicianship and a lovely venue. Will definitely attend future Mary gigs.
Great vibes. Great atmosphere. Great performance.
I didn’t like the venue, with a horrible view from the circle trier. I had to stand in the back, but it didn’t spoil the evening. Glen, as fragile and vulnerable as always, made his point again! He’s just an amazing artist!
Voice of an angel, really loved the gig ❤️
Ethereal sounds from a unique musical voice. A great storyteller. Superb musicians on stage.
About as good as it gets!
Fantastic show.! Such a amazing talent with an incredible voice, the small choir were also excellent.
Super great!!! Love tom’s voice. My dreams come true!
The first half started with an apology from Martin Green, “Er, sorry about that, thanks for waiting, we’re two and half years late getting here. Kris was taking a shower and things just got out of hand.” Straight away we then got a serious demonstration of instrumental and vocal chops, musical quality at the top flight of acoustic artistry.
Kris Drever’s fine voice is to the fore on a couple of songs, and his guitar, a small thing with a mighty voice beautifully courses through the evening, the set is equally deftly driven by Aidan O’Rourke, who’s bowing technique is breathtakingly fine, but who is similarly skilled when hammering out double string pulses to provide rhythmic propulsion (there’s likely a technical name for this, but it escapes me). And then there is Martin Green, accordionist extraordinary, who, in his most alarming moments, appears to be a man fighting with a large octopus, trying to cram it into a struggling shoebox that is itself wriggling to escape his grasp.
It was a terrific, mesmeric performance, and all over far too soon, though the band played well into the evening; I got to hear several songs from the albums I own, and bought two more albums on the way out, from the merch table.
If you love wonderful playing, love fabulous, sometimes lyrically tough songs, if you love experimental developments of the possibilities for an instrumental trio, if you come from a place that values folk songs old and new, if you have a heart that is gladdened by hearing accomplished musicians take their craft in new and exciting directions while paying attentive respect to the roots of their music, go see them.
Thank you for a wonderful night John! Your lyrics and song writing resonates with the soul. Incredibly moving, emotive, uplifting and inspiring!
Excellent venue and Russell Bruce top form. Brilliant. 👍👍👍
Brilliant as always! Lovely venue acoustics really good !
Didn’t know what to expect. The 3 girl trio were fabulous. Would def see again
